Denmark introduces John Dillermand to kids TV (2 Viewers)

I guess we're not seen as a very progressive country, but we certainly have a lot more options and choices open to us. For instance, I'm free to say, Keep your progressive ideas away from me. I'm also free to say, Keep your repressive ideas away from me.

The thing is that "prudence" is very subjective and involves all kinds of attitudes that we learn from our own culture. Sure, there are things that are objectively "bad", but the vast majority of things exist in a grey area that depends on what you were taught or experienced while growing up. I tend to think attitudes toward nudity and sexuality are things that fall into the grey area. Cultures such as those of the Greeks and the Romans had very different attitudes toward nudity and sexualtiy than cultures now based on Judeo-Christian and Islamic morality. And, in many ways, those attitudes toward sexulity and nudity were used, and are still used, to oppress women in those cultures.
When I write about "prudence" regarding children, one example I'm speaking of is the proliferation of gender clinics where they may render puberty blocker medicines. Is it "subjective" to suggest that we have no idea what that may do to a child physically as they mature? I'm not getting into Greeks and Romans.

Smh...where does this idea that America has less censorship than other countries??? We're in a thread talking about a showthat will absolutely be censored from the American public. What options do you think we have that other countries don't?

I honestly didn't know that was a thing and don't know why they would do it.

Anyway, I'm just saying that what is or isn't right for children to do or see, is to a large extent subjective.

From what I know you are just as free to say those things in many other countries including Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the U.K., France, Spain, etc. It's not like we are the only free country in the world. In fact, many people from other countries tend to think of us as been less free than many other places based mostly on our moral objections to sexuality and nudity. Not to mention the fact that they can't see how we think we are free when we don't get 4 weeks of paid vacation and "free" medical care.

Apparently it is. It's also apparently a growth industry.

Well, till these children grow up and the lawsuits start.

You really think I am living under a rock, huh?

I don't know you. All I know is what you write. And, what you wrote seemed to suggest that you thought that we were somehow much more free than the rest of the world. And I don't think that's true. It has nothing to do with any judgment regarding you as a person. It's simply a response to what you wrote. But, maybe I read it wrong.

I wish we weren't so prudish here about nudity. But imbuing a sexual organ with powers to "save" children is something different than not being ashamed of our naked bodies and, frankly, sounds right out of the NAMBLA playbook.
(caveat: i haven't studied the science on this...)
in all of the online training about keeping children safe from sexual predators that i have to do every year - then consistent thing that comes up is that predators prey on shame and the stuff kids are likely to hide from parents
it's why my wife insists that our boys use anatomical terms for genitalia and discourages the use of cutsey terms for penises

if the spectrum is cartoon dude pogoing on a 15' penis on one end and abstinence only sex education on the other, the 1st seems way healthier

You decided to school me as if I was trying to make a blanket statement (I didn't) that the US is No. 1 (it isn't) on a list of countries. You may not know me, but I think you could have presumed I know there are other free countries or have the same understanding as you do what their general opinions of Americans are (that may or may not be correct). I think I write pretty well. I'm also on SR dot com which, IMO, attracts a fairly higher literate poster base than do a lot of fan sites. So that should give you some a posteriori indication that I probably knew there were other free countries.

And I referenced this idea in my "Hey, little Johnny" scenario. Which is why I said I personally wouldn't make this thing that I can't make nonexistent something verboten to my [imaginary] child which could be used as a lure.

If everyone did this, we'd be a little farther toward being able to be more open. I have often joked about still waiting for my own mother to have the "talk" with me. I would have wanted her to be easier to talk to; but by the same token, she also never used cutesey alternative names or went out of her way to stigmatize me.

Not sure I get the connection being made here. I didn't understand that John Dillermand was supposed to be teaching safe sex.

If you think I was "schooling" you then that's your perception but not my intention. I was simply trying to discuss a topic on a message board. I have no idea what your intent was. All I can do is respond to the statement you made and what you said. I don't assume things about what people mean when they write things other than that I assume people mean the things that they write. And, as I said, I don't know you so I don't know what you do or do not know and I don't know what you mean unless you say it.
