I won't get it. I say that because (based on current info) it doesn't kill the virus, doesn't help stop you from getting the virus (which, btw is the whole point of a vaccine) and doesn't stop you from passing it on. If it doesn't do anything, what's the point? Just to say I did?

A vaccine isn't supposed to kill the virus. It teaches the body how to kill it. So technically you still can get exposed to it, but the body now knows how to handle it. If you don't get it, you won't pass it on. So no, it's an invaluable part of getting rid of the virus in the US.

Is your problem with vaccines in general or this specific one?

It does help stop you from getting the virus and even if it does not 'kill the virus' it certainly slows or stops transmission. (It also makes it certain that if you do get it, you won't die.)

The point of getting it is to bring the spread down to zero or close to it so we can all take off our stupid masks and go back to bars and concerts and real life.

My dad got his first shot two weeks ago. My mom gets her first one tomorrow.

Today, I found out that teachers in the parish are getting very close to being able to get it (maybe next week). So close that one of the local hospitals allowed us to call and get on their list. As soon as they have them and can give them, they'll call to set up an appointment. I've never looked forward to getting stabbed with a needle....until now.

My parents got their second shot yesterday. They are good. no side effects so far. They were told it would take about a week before the vaccine was fully effective. I think thats something a lot of people misunderstand about vaccines.

One of my pet peeves is someone telling me, I got the Flu shot, but still caught the Flu. It takes about 2 weeks to build
anti-bodies to protect you.

I know this is Web md,but this is what others say as well.

I don't have a problem with vaccines in general. I was in the military so I have been vaccinated against nearly everything. I have 3 issues with this. One being that I don't believe it will work. The second being because I am one of those who gets sick when I get the flu shot. I used to get it every year and got sick every year. I haven't had it in at least 20 years and haven't had more than a mild cold (definitely not the flu) in that time. The third is I don't trust the CDC. Just a few months ago they were saying we shouldn't even be wearing masks and now it's "take the vaccine or you'll die and also you're a terrible person". I don't think they know what the truth is. That coupled with the fainting nurse incident and the Bell's Palsy incidents, I'd rather take my chances. Especially when my chances are over 99%.

In reply, to your first point, look at what is happening in Israel. They have it together with their vaccine and their serious cases are falling quickly. The science is sound.
Second, it’s impossible to get the flu from a flu shot. The virus is inactive and its simply an impossibility for that to happen. Now, can you get the flu within 2 weeks as your immunity builds? Can you get a mutation of the virus? Sure that happened to me a couple years ago. The flu shot is the most imperfect of the bunch due to the nature of the flu virus. When the newer shot comes out which creates an immune response against the stable part of the virus, then then the shot will hit the effectiveness of the other major immunizations.
Third point is you throw the CDC under the bus, but you don’t step back and look at what was happening. This virus came out of the blue. If it was more like SARS or MERS then only active showing patients could spread it, and quarantine worked as did avoiding those sick. That has been shown to not be the case. Look at the run on masks in the beginning. Simply could not get them. So the CDC opted for no mask and quarantine. It was the best they had as the pandemic unfolded. As the situation evolved, they changed their guidance. As the strains are evolving, things are evolving still. The biggest problem with this has been their message has been poorly stated. There are reasons for this, well documented, but that discussion is on the politics board.
It just strikes me sadly as I read things like this, listen to my board meeting last night, watch the news how people simply dismiss science and some extremely amazing work that has happened in the vaccine front in the last year because it doesn’t fit into a narrative they want to believe. The Karens and Dr Jenny McCarthey have gotten a third of the US to simply disbelieve all science unless it’s read on Facebook.

I don't like cherry picking a great post, but wanted to comment on the last sentence. it's not just stupid people getting their info
off FB. I have a friend who is a retired petty officer in the Navy. He was in charge of the health dept. at his base. He believes
the vaccine is chipped and alters your DNA.

Israel's deal to obtain early doses of vaccine in exchange for sharing massive public health data for vaccine studies is starting to pay off.

This suggests (not yet proven) that the vaccines do in fact cut transmission by reducing the viral load way, way down if you get infected after receiving the vaccine.

In other words, get the shot.
