Brady gets way more help from refs then Brees and the stat to prove it (1 Viewer)

Yeah, the Pats are so disciplined they cause the officials to throw PI flags at a statistically alarming rate against their opponents. Re-read the OP.

And then immediately return to the mean post-Brady, while Tampa Bay suddenly becomes one of the most disciplined teams with Brady after being one of the least disciplined one year earlier.

Statistics like this leave me more and more disgusted at the current state of the NFL. I love the Saints, but #$%^ the NFL.

Frankly my interests have turned more and more to soccer over the last decade, and I can see a point at which NFL games become irrelevant to me. All NFL games, Saints included. It is difficult to root for, follow, and love a team when you know you are only one screwed officiating call from throwing a whole year away. Again. If the quality and officiating of the NFL don't improve drastically there will be more like me.

FIFA lost some of their credibility years ago, and rightfully so, but has done a good job lately. Adding the VAR system was a big step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the NFL seems to be moving in the right direction.

I do watch some soccer, although not as much as I used to, and I can’t remember the last soccer game where the ref was clearly only making calls for one team. The NFL just doesn’t seem to give a ....!

I may feel differently come late summer, but everything leading up to that Super Bowl, then the game itself, really put a damper on my NFL enthusiasm. I mean by now I'd be doing mock draft stuff, etc, but I can't really get into it this time. It's somewhat worse than the usual early-offseason funk.

Funny you said that. I used to relish draft season. But honestly I don't give a s*** anymore. If someone is going to get all the calls anyway, then why bother.

I salute NOFALCONS though. Nothing will stop him, not even the historical bias discussed (and proven) in this thread. He must watch more tape than Jon Gruden.

Being honest, I think this has more to do with Brady’s greatness. He keeps his offense on schedule and disciplined. What he did this year was truly incredible...and what the NE offense turned into was just as telling

With regards to NO not getting as many PI’s, I would think it has to do with the system not attacking the deep zones. Just not nearly as many opportunities to get those PI’s called.

Why did Tampa Bay go from 12 to 27 PI's in their favor from 2019 to 2020? Same system both years.

Why was New England tied for the third most PI's in their favor in 2019? It was a dink and dunk offense just like New Orleans. The reason given for that was how bad NE's receivers were. Yet they still drew the third most PI's.

New England didn't get any better at receiver this year and had... Two PI's in their favor. Two (2).

Brady’s mental game is simply on another level. PFF released a stat about QB’s in an Arians offense. They generally set a career high in INT’s year 1. They found that “ QBs in their first year average 46 turnover worthy plays in Arians system, Brady had 17.” That tells the story to me. He led the league with just 2.2% turnover worthy throws while also leading the NFL with 55 big time throws. Then add in he was 6th fastest getting rid of the ball despite taking so many deep shots and you see why defenses were stressed and making mistakes. That’s just not human behavior at 43 years of age.

The 27 is definitely interesting. It's a lot for sure. I think there are slot of factors. Before this year, since 2009, Brady ranked an average of 9.8 in the league in getting DPI calls and was never #1. This year, having to throw deep the most (83), and the team struggling, Brady definitely just put a lot of balls up and benefitted from calls. Evans especially benefitted, he was the recipient of majority.

Before the SB, I heard they led the league but not one complaint on this site, Chiefs site, or any other about this fact. Now a few questionable calls and everything is fixed? The only other PI call I remember anyone complaining about was the one at the end of the NFC Championship game verse the Packers. The guy had his jersey that stretched out 2 feet, it was the right call.

Bottom line, with or without calls, Brady and the Bucs were winning that game and winning handily. Worse case scenario: if everything went the Chiefs way and no bad calls and Bucs didn't do anything else with those drives the calls came on, then Chiefs still lose by at least 1 score. Remember, all the sketchy calls came in 1st half, Chiefs only scored 3 in the second half, Bucs scored 10 in 3rd quarter and just ran the ball killing clock in the 4th. Bucs moved the ball most of the game, Chiefs did not

Or the PI's happen just as often but the refs leave their flags in their pockets. See the NFC title game from 2018 for a reference.

Tampa I think was the 4th most penalized team last year. They were getting a ton of flags the first few games of the year until Brady went off on his Oline and then they cleaned it up and became one of the more disciplined teams in the league.
In terms of the PI calls, Tampa had the best vertical passing game in the league. Brady led the league in 20+ yard attempts and completions. He is also the best at drawing the PI where he places the ball only where his guy can get it.
Seems the Chiefs are just really salty. They were completely outclassed by Tampa on both sides of the ball and coaching.
This is at least what the NFL would have us believe. There is always a “script” to explain away anything.
