I'm ready to rebuild. Mac Jones or bust (2 Viewers)

Really?! Those guys are the qbs that teams want, because the NFL is getting mobile. Mac Jones reminds you guys of DB, but that's not the new wave. No one is breaking down the doors for Jones!!!
Tom Brady alone has more superbowl wins than all mobile qbs combined.

Which mobile qb ever won the superbowl in the past 40 or 50 years other than Steve Young?

Cam Newton failed.

McNabb's failed.

Kaepernick failed.

And those are the only ones who made it.

Mahomes

1) lost to the ultimate pocket passer
2) never ran for more than 300 yards and 2 tds in a season

I think you're setting arbitrary numbers to prove whether someone is mobile.

No one thinks a player has to run for a lot of yards to stress the D. But Mahomes is certainly mobile and hurts teams when necessary (especially the divisional playoffs last year). It also doesn't mean a less mobile QB CAN'T win a Super Bowl. But the more elements you have to stress a D, the less perfect you have to be elsewhere.

Also..Russell Wilson?

There certainly has to be a standard for "Mobility," correct? or how else can you exclude QBs like Brees or Brady?

I give you Wilson but Wilson also has 900 yard rushing seasons in his resume.

You really want to tell me Mahomes is anything like Wilson, Lamar, Jackson or Michael Vick?

Not really. I can look at the game and see whether or not someone can run and stress a D and, in turn, whether the D has to account for them.

Not everything has to be measured in numbers.

At any rate, both Mahomes and Wilson have something else in common:

Losing to Tom Brady who has only rushed for 1043 yards in 21 NFL seasons.

Pocket passers have won, what, 28 of the last 30 superbowls if not more?

I agree that it doesn't prove that Mobile QBs can't win it but it does demonstrate that it's far too soon to be saying any eulogies for the pocket passer system.

This isn't a rebuild roster it's a retool roster. This isn't a team that has time to grow with a rookie QB. It's built to insert a veteran and instantly make a playoff run.
Why not do both? Draft a BPA QB if the option presents itself and play a QB we can afford while the rookie matures (be it Winston or otherwise).

and Bridgewater

I say we draft Mahones if not take Marshon. BPA gets it done

I'm all for BPA in most cases. Especially at positions of need.

If Mac Jones isn't there I'm all for Zaven Collins, Jabril Cox, Hunter Long, or Pat Freiermuth.

I imagine they'll go guard like Quinn Miners though.

Maybe even NT Alim McNeil.

They should get a good player either way.

Well, if someone Payton loves falls to a spot we are picking, then sure.

The issue is that, outside the top five or so, QB is rarely BPA anymore. Teams usually target them and go up to get them, which requires assets.

Mahomes? Chiefs traded up.
Watson? Texans traded up
Allen? Bills traded up
Jackson? Ravens traded up

If you truly love a QB, you have to go get them. And if you truly love a QB, odds are someone else does, too. So you have to give up picks that could otherwise be used to fortify your roster for a run now.

Let's face it guys we won't win until we start getting younger in most of these vet positions. We can't afford to keep everyone but at least lets just break down the right way and put it all back together. SAINTS 4 LIFE!!! Winston will find another home else where and so will Taysom.

In what positions do we have Vets
Running Backs are under 30
Wide Receivers are under 30 except Sanders
Oline everybody under 30

Secondary is young except Jenkins And Jenkins

Defensive line is probably youngest position on the team with only Cam being “old” yet I’ll take old Cam over 57 other starting DEs
