News United Airlines flight has engine explode into flames shortly after takeoff from Denver. (1 Viewer)

and i know all of us will have the grace not to make a joke of the flt #

According to the Main forum, any 28-3 jokes are played out anyway, so.

No injuries or deaths reported - great news. If only the flight was over Massachusetts, maybe 28-3 could be revived?

Other than 241 pairs of underwear.

So many questions, lol. Amazed that the engine was still running, and that the plane landed safely. The passengers had to be sweating bullets, yikes!
There's a picture of part of the engine in somebody's front yard. They took video that shows that the part had landed on their truck. My screenshot is too large to post.

When I saw the pic of the debris in front of the house, after being relieved that no one was hurt in the air or on the ground, I immediately thought of this scene in Shameless...

I wonder of there was a disc failure. Those usually are found in the ground, due to extreme impact energy. The outer debris doesn't quite hit as hard.

In any case, there seems to be an issue with uncontained failures. Looks like the composite isn't up to the task.

Yeah, I was wondering if it was failure of the attachments holding the outer panels down, or the panels themselves had a failure. But the passengers reported a large explosion, so I wonder if maybe the plane hit a large bird or some component in the engine failed, leading to the explosion. I imagine this shouldn't take the FAA too long to figure out since they have most all of the components still somewhat intact.
