Here's the quote from Pro Football Focus

"Since entering the league in 2017, Williams has ranked near the top of the league in every significant category for safeties. He has a coverage grade that ranks in the 90th percentile to go with the highest rate of forced incompletions. Williams is also a solid run defender and with the skills to fit as a free safety in any scheme.

Contract Analysis: Williams is infamous for the Minneapolis Miracle, which is a shame because he’s been a great player for the Saints on the back end. New Orleans brought their 2009 first-round pick, Malcolm Jenkins, back to the bayou this offseason, which could be a sign that they are preparing for the departure of Williams.

Prediction: Jaguars sign Williams for four years, $57M ($14.25M APY): $30M total guaranteed, $18.5M fully guaranteed at signing."

That's a horrible overpay in a crowded FS market and deep draft class

Holy moly, that’s a lot of $ for Williams. And pretty much every safety out there. Especially with the new Salary cap! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to sign all of our good young players, but if it’s between him and Lattimore. Well.......

They had an overthecap.com guy on WWL a few weeks ago who also projected Williams' contract at 15mil/year.
There is only 14 teams with even $15 million+ in cap space.

This is pretty lazy analysis. Like the OP article literally had Williams going to the highest cap room team to justify a gross overspend that really doesn't make sense. If this was a $211 million salary cap. I can see a $15 million Williams deal. Not at $180 million.

I really dont see how Saints will be able to keep Marcus. Since he didnt get that nice first round rookie contract, he definitely is going to be looking to get paid. Dont blame him for taking the best deal he can get possible.

Teams will create cap space and just because he gets 15mil/year, doesn't mean he's actually going to count 15mil against this year's cap.

While this may be true, you don’t need 15 mil this year to sign the player for an average of 15 mil per year. We back load contracts all of the time.

I'm mostly critizing Williams to Jacksonville predictions.

1. I don't see the fit.

2. I just don't see a 1-15 team with a bunch of cap space with only around 68 million to spend CB money on a safety. It doesn't make sense . It's a reach. A bad one at that. They are probably gonna invest money into the oline and offense for Lawrence.
