I dunno, but at 45 million vaccines per month, you'd have the entire country vaccinated in 6 months. And that's assuming everyone goes and gets it. We all know that won't happen as more than a few people are going to pass on it because, reasons. Iirc, we're doing around 1.5 million/day. I expect that will go to 2 million as more vaccine options become available.

I hope you are right... I really do... I don't see this getting done correctly, and not dragged out (nearly without end) and becoming fraught with confusion and lack of coordination that leads to long delays, and a general lack of confidence in immunity levels... Unless they (we) decide to mass produce just Covid vaccines (by a magnitude of x5 or more) right off the bat... and put the "Folks in Fatigues" in charge of getting into arms ASAP.

I guess we'll see. The infrastructure is already in place to get the vaccines out. The questions imo are execution and communication. I feel like they'll get it done. Sure, there will be a hiccup here and there but 6 months definitely seems doable to me.

I don't see anything in place that provides consistent and reliable execution and communication... everything is Hodge podge.

We got Faucci saying this week.... Vaccines for Kids as Young as First Graders Could Be Authorized by September... "Could Be Authorized by September".... LMAO

Insanity.

Mass Produce now.... Put the Military in charge.... Pump it into any arm willing and available 24x7... and start this yesterday.

But you wouldn't give a placebo to someone that received a real first shot. That would be tested the efficacy of the first shot at the expense of the individual. My understanding is that after two shots of placebo, they unblind and give you the real shot. I'd be P'Oed if I got the real shot and then a placebo.

yeah, i agree, it wouldn't make sense. Though i guess you could show up and get paid to get some water shots.

The mass production part is happening. The coordination with private industry is really the key. Coordination with the likes of Walgreens, CVS, and various grocery chains is all happening. Enough vaccine is coming down the pipe. The estimate is that by the end of April enough will be in the hands of various distribution methods that anyone that wants a shot can get it.

Going from emergency use authorization in December to enough vaccine for everyone in the hands of mostly private industry distribution chains is pretty good. I suspect by June we will be getting back to some sense of normalcy. I know that sounds bad, but really it's just 3.5 months away.

In reply, to your first point, look at what is happening in Israel. They have it together with their vaccine and their serious cases are falling quickly. The science is sound.
Second, it’s impossible to get the flu from a flu shot. The virus is inactive and its simply an impossibility for that to happen. Now, can you get the flu within 2 weeks as your immunity builds? Can you get a mutation of the virus? Sure that happened to me a couple years ago. The flu shot is the most imperfect of the bunch due to the nature of the flu virus. When the newer shot comes out which creates an immune response against the stable part of the virus, then then the shot will hit the effectiveness of the other major immunizations.
Third point is you throw the CDC under the bus, but you don’t step back and look at what was happening. This virus came out of the blue. If it was more like SARS or MERS then only active showing patients could spread it, and quarantine worked as did avoiding those sick. That has been shown to not be the case. Look at the run on masks in the beginning. Simply could not get them. So the CDC opted for no mask and quarantine. It was the best they had as the pandemic unfolded. As the situation evolved, they changed their guidance. As the strains are evolving, things are evolving still. The biggest problem with this has been their message has been poorly stated. There are reasons for this, well documented, but that discussion is on the politics board.
It just strikes me sadly as I read things like this, listen to my board meeting last night, watch the news how people simply dismiss science and some extremely amazing work that has happened in the vaccine front in the last year because it doesn’t fit into a narrative they want to believe. The Karens and Dr Jenny McCarthey have gotten a third of the US to simply disbelieve all science unless it’s read on Facebook.
I never said I got the flu from the shot. Coincidence or not, if you do one thing every year and get the same result, then you make a change and the result changes.....it would be dumb not to put that together. Yes, I'm throwing the CDC under the bus. I'm not saying they aren't getting there, I just don't think they're there yet. I'll need more proof. I'm not one of those TLDRs or a patient of DR Facebok/Twitter. I read as much info as I can find and make my own decisions. I haven't really paid any attention to Jenny McCarthy since she was on Singled Out.

Walmart announced that 3 Ms. coast locations will be administering the vaccine.

I laugh because the only year I ever had the flu shot when I was younger was the only year I ever got the flu. Maybe it was because I felt better protected so I took less precautions? But when I do tell that story, I always explain I know the shot didn't give me the flu, but I went dozens of years without getting the shot again and never got the flu again. Now that I see my doctor more regularly, I got the shot every year for the past 3 years and still no flu, so I think I'm just more cautious after getting it that one time.

However, I am going to get the vaccine as soon as I am eligible. I understand people's mistrust in the CDC based on the initial mask statement, but the motivations behind that have been explained ad nauseam. No one is perfect and people try to make the best decisions they can based on currently available data, so you have to constantly revise your point of view. If not, then you will be wrong way more often than you are right. But, I do agree and I still think they should have pushed for homemade masks right off the get instead of just saying you don't need masks in order to protect the N95 supply.

The defense production act should have been invoked a year ago. A box of surgical grade masks mailed to ever home once a month. Mask wearing should have been encouraged by our highest political figures. PSA's run on TV and radio. We should have been dealt with honestly

It’ll never be “fast enough” but this is easily the fastest roll out of any vaccine in world history. Before COVID, the fastest immunization production was 4 years. Here we are at about a year and we could have essentially everyone vaccinated by the 2 year mark. That’s incredible. And for those that willfully don’t get it...fur whatever reason...they are a blip on the radar. They shouldn’t overwhelm our hospitals and provoke economic collapse. Deep breath people.

I'm scheduled for my 1st shot tomorrow afternoon. Perfect timing since any fatigue will be rested off on Saturday.

My wife (35 / educator) received her first Pfizer shot yesterday. This morning she said she felt fine. She asked if I was going to get it. At 35 and in IT, I doubt I am priority. I assume the virus will be gone by the time my number gets called

Hopefully J+J gets approved this weekend and doses are available next week. Would up LA's weekly shot count by almost 30%.

FYI for those who are interested the MS drive thru sites are showing tons of availability...

Call around and check. We have a local pharmacy in Biloxi giving the vaccine now. I heard on WWL earlier the Johnson
and Johnson one shot vaccine is supposed to be approved this weekend.

Still waiting. On multiple waiting lists. Was told through work it may be three more weeks. Ugh.
