Jefferson's Reserve aged in Cabernet barrels is the absolute shirt.

I've got a partial bottle of it aged in Chappellet Pritchard Hill barrels. It's decent enough but not amazing.

I'm having a couple of glasses of Wilderness Trail offerings tonight. My first pour was the 6 year old BIB. The second pour is a nearly 5 year old single barrel wheated recipe that was chosen for the New Orleans Bourbon Festival. I haven't been this excited for a new whiskey/distillery in a long while. It's all legitimately good without pulling tricks.

Wife and I went drinking last night and the bar we went to didn't have much in the way of good bourbon, but in the back I saw Elijah Craig small batch so I ordered it. I've had it before, but the bartender must've been new because she gave me a high ball glass filled almost to the top and only charged me for a single shot. Fun was had by all.

I take it that this is a story that in the future shall begin with, 'So there I was...'

Haha. I love these stories. Sometimes ordering something neat at a low rent bar can be a big win. The bartenders don't really like seeing a near empty glass. It just doesn't seem right. So they fill her up. Win for me...and you.

I just bought a case of Ed Cab Sav. They knocked 15% since I bought more than 8 bottles. I like some of the stuff that is aged in bourbon barrels like Beringer Bros as well as Cooper and Thief red blend.

I'll be there in the morning to try and catch any allocated whiskey off the truck when they open.

Had some of this tonight. Wife and I liked it. Better than I expected tbh. Would probably buy again. But at $30, won't be often.

I realize there are probably zero high ester rum drinkers here, but it was a Sunday morning delivery and my mouth was watering with anticipation. Think of it as a not too smoky Laphroig.

How is that Belle Meade Medeira finished? I've been looking at it for awhile but never pulled the trigger.
I will report back when I crack it open. I've had it on my notepad for a while and this was the first time I saw it in the wild.
Try Buck Shack Bourbon Barrel aged by Shannon Ridge if that's your jam. I've had it side by side with the others and it beats C&T at a better price. Plus the bottle is pretty cool.
I'll have to search the smaller stores here. I couldn't find it listed at any of the big 3 chains here in FTW. Thanks for the tip.

Nice. Glad you enjoyed it. I found mine in a store when I stopped by to try and schmooze with the manager in an effort to network and get on his good guy list for allocated whiskey. He talked it up and said they had a ton the gift boxes on hand after the holidays. They were $20 a pop so I bought 3. It's good stuff. Beringer Bros Cab Sav is my favorite Bourbon Barrel finish wine, but this one ranks up there.

I was doing some cleaning and organizing the kitchen today and decided to collect all the whiskey I have stashed in various cabinets and the pantry. Looks like I need to build some shelves.

Wow, lol. I've never been much of a drinker, but those whiskey and wine bottles are fascinating. I'd probably collect them if I did drink much.

Back in the day when my dad was a big drinker, he had a pretty nice collection, but he and my mom both had to quit, so I'm guessing he tossed them all.

I'll have to come help you organize them by taste...

I got a lead on a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that will hopefully come in Wednesday. I'm very excited about it. I hope it works out.

Just invite us over. You won't have to deal with building any shelves after that...

Ok, the notes say this is made from 3 barrels aged for 7-9 years and then blended together at cask strength. They then place in medeira casks for at least 3 months. The whiskey used is at least 30% rye, but you can't tell it. They cut it down to 90 proof and it's non-chill filtered.

The nose is fantastic. Much like the Bardstown Bourbon Discovery #4, you just want to sniff it all day with lots of vanilla and some mellow cherry notes. My unsophisticated palate picked up some cherry and toffee on the taste. The finish is nice, but this peaks with the nose. It does drop off after that, but it's not disappointing at all. I think this is a good whiskey for people that like wine.

At $70, it's not cheap but I feel like it still affordable for something that you're not going to find sitting on the shelf year round. I'm comfortable with that price to buy it again. I really want to find the Belle Meade XO that's finish in a cognac cask.
