If Jameis is the Future QB (1 Viewer)

Post your reaction if/ when it is announced they are going with Jameis. I mean, we’re all waiting for that shoe to drop whether it’s pursuing Russell Wilson, drafting a QB or riding with Jameis. I’m on the Russell Wilson train myself and my reaction to Jameis would be one of disappointment. Heck I think I’d be as excited if they drafted the Alabama quarterback or another then to go with Jameis. At least that would signal they’re trying to get financials cleaned up and riding with youth and entering a new era of Saints football. Apologies if there is Jameis thread fatigue . I just thought it would be interesting to see if the decision were to be made tomorrow what the reaction or let down would be. Thanks.

Ways I could have done it...
1) THex had 13.5 sacks and some team will probably pay him a big money, who would you prefer Winston or Brees?

2) Ruiz struggled in pass pro his rookie season, would you take Winston over Hill?

If Jameis is signed I don't think they'll tell him you're the #1.....there will be a competition with Taysom. I've been surprised at how the Jameis fans have taken a few positive sentences by Payton and have already crowned him the starter.

Nothing will be given to Jameis and if he's signed that does not eliminate the possibility of drafting a QB(those wishing Mac can let it go because it looks like he might be top 5 at this point). Jameis is in a similar position as Brees in terms of age, so if he balls out we probably stick with him. I know a significant part of the board does not want this scenario but it is the possibility. I want him to earn it and I welcome competition between him and Taysom.

If Winston stays, my expectation is he will be named the starter. Even if the competition ends evenly, I just think he has a higher ceiling than Taysom at this point in their careers.

Having said that, regardless of who our QB is, I will support them. All I want is the guy who gives us the best chance to win.

As a Saint fan first and foremost, I support the team. Whomever the QB maybe, they will have my support. That doesn't mean that individual is above criticism (Brees and Hill fan boi club members take note), it means at the end of the day, they are a Saint and I will support them. Like the poster above, I feel based on what I've seen, Winston is the better QB than Hill. However, Hill's value is more than just QB. I'm all for fielding the best team to win games each and every week.

People are REALLY in denial. Winston is the guy, Payton has even said he's a priority resigning but people are holding out hope that there is still some mystery player the Saints could be targeting.

This is a seamless move but people would much rather believe there is some complicated plan the Saints are going to execute to fill the QB position because of some personal bias.

......the fact people think Taysom Hill his still a viable option as opposed to Winston is perplexing.

I don't think Jameis will stay.....the Saints won't be inclined to pay what others will....plus I think another team will offer more assurances, a cleaner path to be their #1.

Play the both at the same time nearly 75% of the time. Give Taysom the other 20-25% of snaps behind center. I betcha Jameis can can catch a few. Dare defenses to cover that.

So @ 1st u pretty much say he's not worth a decent contract, afterwhich assuming that another team will sign him to a better contract than us. Ummmm ok

I can't think of a much cleaner path to becoming starter than having to compete with T Hill @ QB LoL

It would be an interesting competition. An arguement can be made that he played better than all the backups during his Green Bay preseason, likewise with Teddy a couple years ago. Who will fix what needs fixin'?

Whether we sign Jameis, or not, i think he & Taysom are stop gap players who’ll man the position until the true heir to Drew Brees is drafted. Outside of Lawrence, Wilson, Lance & maybe Fields, this years QB class has way too many question marks. Seems like the media heads are all pushing/pumping up some guys who are fringe 1st RDers a bit too much.

I think our guy will be coming out either next season, or in 2022. Sam Howell, Spencer Rattler, Kedon Slovis, Emery Jones, Malik Willis & DJ Uiagalelei are all coming out over the next 2 years. All those dudes would be super stars on Seam Payton’s O. My dream QB would be either Sam Howell or DJ Uiagalelei. Spencer Rattler & Slovis would be awesome too.
