I'll have to come help you organize them by taste...

I got a lead on a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that will hopefully come in Wednesday. I'm very excited about it. I hope it works out.

So "the truck" still hasn't arrived with my ECBP A121, but the store owner felt bad for me and sold me his own bottle of ECBP C920!!! Holy sheet was I excited. That's the one I really wanted anyway. And for good measure, he got in 2 bottles of Eagle Rare and I bought one of those, too. It was a very good night. Man is this C920 some of the best stuff I have ever had in my life.... and I got it for retail at $58. I don't know what I did to deserve today, but I'm very thankful... and a little tipsy.

C920 is definitely a high octane bourbon. I had to add some ice, but it's very nice despite the intensity.

I also had a good couple days...

Damn dude, do you scour all the stores or do you have a hook up??? That's a Damn good score!! I've never seen Weller, or Eh Taylor or Blantons anywhere yet.

A new friend gave me a heads up on the Knob Creek 25th Anniversary. He was passing through Venus, TX and found it for $89. He bought a bottle and let me know about the other two. MSRP is $139 I think.

I have a regular "route" on Wed/Fri starting at TW, then WB (at a Costco), then two different Specs on the way home. TW puts out their allocated, so first come, first serve. Specs keeps theirs in back, so I made friends with the managers and assistant managers. Sometimes they keep a bottle for me, sometimes I just luck out. I try to keep in touch with what is dropping by looking at release calendars, Instagram, etc.

The Weller and Blanton's I got from WB, which is the liquor store attached to Costco in Texas. I rarely find anything there, but I always heard rumors.

Drinking my new bottle of ECBP A121. This batch comes in at a low 123.6. I don't recall ECBP ever being that low, but I'm sure someone here can chime in and correct me.

On the nose, this doesn't carry like a barrel proof. Oak and berries are right up front and there's nothing to suggest there will be even the gentlest of burns. It's very sweet and rich smelling.

Taste-wise, it's not dessert sweet but you definitely get the 70+% corn in the mashbill. I definitely get citrus, vanilla and caramel and a very creamy mouth feel. The nose does not betray the taste buds as there is almost no burn. This drinks like something much lower in proof. I honestly am regretting that I passed up a second bottle today because I really dig this bottle.

The finish is a good follow through, pleasant enough and lasts a good minute after the taste. This is only my third bottle of ECBP and maybe the 6th or 7th that I have tried. I can already tell this is my favorite.

Ricky's in Kenner got a single barrel store pick of Buffalo Trace in so I popped in to buy a bottle. Wow is it good. They also had a girl giving tastes of Redbreast 12 and Jameson Black. That Redbreast 12 was amazing! Unlike any Irish Whiskey I've ever had. I definitely need to snag a bottle of that.

I found a bottle of Redbreast 27. It's a shade under $500 for the bottle. I was sooooo tempted to buy it, but I wasn't ready for the ****storm that awaited me when I brought it home. Lol. There's no defending that purchase right now.

I'm always tempted to pick up a bottle of Redbreast 12, but I've never really liked Irish Whiskey. Of course, I've only tasted Jameson and Bushmill as far as Irish Whiskeys, but I didn't like either of them. (Sorry, zeetes). But, I think that may have to do with them being distilled using column stills and the high percentage of grain whiskey they use giving them kind of a metallic taste. I guess I really need to try out Irish Whiskeys that have been distilled in pot stills or their more malted stuff.

So, as a more general question, what kind of glasses do you guys use? I own some Glen Cairn glasses that I have been using, but I really don't like using them. I know they are supposed to help you smell all the subtle nuances, but I really don't like how they feel in my hand or the feel of them while drinking. They also make me feel like a pompous arse using them and that's not fair because although I'm an arse, I'm not really pompous. Well, mostly.

So, anyway, I've been bouncing back and forth between the Glen Cairn and a set of rocks glasses but neither seems quite right for neat whisky.

My sister gave me an engraved set of rocks glasses for my birthday one year, so that's what I used because I love them. I've never used a Glen Cairn and probably never will at my own house.
