Falcon and the Winter Soldier - Trailer (2 Viewers)

I think I said it was a slow burn, which it was. By the end it was fine. Not great.

But you might be right about the second part. So far, these are no match for The Boys, Stranger Things, Mandalorian, and Cobra Kai and are just okay like Umbrella Academy
at the time i didn't understand you're claiming it was a slow burn and i still dont

and I'll give you 'The Boys' - that show is consistently pitch perfect - like The Expanse, if it wasn't a genre show, it would be considered an alltime great (that being said, parodies are typically easier stories to create bc the source material does a lot of the work)
i'm not sure what criteria i would use to put either Stranger Things or MCU ahead of the other
MCU shows are almost diametrically counter to Mandalorian - MCU is trying to build from the most successful movie franchise of all time - Mandalorian is the next work in a franchise DESPERATE for a modicum of quality - and while it's good, fan's relief is what carries it forward and makes it easier to overlook some of the unforced errors of plot and execution that occurs - it also leans heavily on homage
Cobra Kai is a big nostalgic, fun mess - it mostly works because William Zabka is carrying most of the emotional weight - without him grounding the show with some real emotional poignancy, it's probably a CW show

not even going to bother with the Umbrella comparison

i do wonder if you're not chafing a bit at Marvel saying, 'hey let's reexamine some of the 'problematic' elements of our stories and the culture at large'

That's been a recurring theme in Captain America's comics for over 50 years. It isn't for everybody.

When I was a kid, and able to get the back issues of Captain America and The Falcon, I was shocked at how blunt they were with the message. Those issues seem overdone now but they were a reflection of the time. I think that sales have suffered over the years, as a result, but somebody has to tell the stories. They're best told with an icon like Captain America who will draw from a larger audience that they may not have otherwise.

I wonder how people would react if the MCU introduces The Blue Marvel?

Yeah, none of this is really new to the broader Cap mythos, especially as it relates to Falcon. Even Malcolm Spellman (showrunner) has pointed out that while Marvel Comics didn't always get it right when addressing these kinds of issues, they've at the very least been trying to address them since the 70s.

As to Blue Marvel, there are really two points of view to take there: certainly some very interesting stories relating to race could be told. But he's also a narrative breaking character in terms of his power level. He is absurdly powerful. Like "makes MCU Captain Marvel look like Paste Pot Pete" powerful. I'm not particularly fond of characters with that level of power. If they could reign that in a bit I'd be all for including him.

I don't care for characters who possess that level of power either. That's why I never cared for DC characters. Blue Marvel is rarely brought out for stories because he's a story killer.

"The world was in danger of being destroyed and then Blue Marvel showed up and then it wasn't. The end. "

Not very intriguing.

I'm glad that they're trying to address the issues again and I'm glad that the show is being handled by a person who can address them properly.

I am just happy that they did not give everyone comically overdone "Loozyanna" accents - have to assume Anthony Mackie exercised some quality control there.

If he was exercising real quality control, there would not have been Old Bay seasoning in the spice rack at his sister's house.

Hold up! Old Bay seasoning? In Louisiana? This may require a poll. I always though Old Bay was more highly thought of by East coasters like Maryland and South Carolina whereas folks down in Louisiana used seasoning blends with more kick to them.

We don't use Old Bay in Louisiana. Which is why I was saying it should not have been in his sister's spice rack. I just couldn't help but notice the Old Bay in the spice rack. It just stuck out to me.

Had it been an authentic Louisiana spice rack, it would have been Zatarain's, Smack Ya Mamma, Louisiana brand, or a few others that slip my mind at the moment. She also should have had some cayenne pepper and some Tony Chachere's seasoning. But, at least she had some Tabasco sauce. Although, I prefer Crystal hot sauce. By the way, this is likely to start a smack down on what is the best seasoning for your crawfish and/or shrimp boil. Serious business.

Yep. I've lived in the DC/Baltimore area for 20+ years and never once bought Old Bay. :hihi:

Forgive me. I misread your post. :covri: Totally spot on.

i'd be interested to read/hear what changes were made from script to screen (evidently there was a significant script overhaul - but i'm not sure if any of the old script was shot)

there are some odd unforced continuity (et al) errors:
how did John Walker grow a beard in a day?
what's up with Bucky's dog tags?
when Bucky & Sam are walking on the road you see a front shot and no jeep behind them - in the next shot (dialogue continues so no time change), the jeep* pulls up from behind

* (i don't care if it's not actually a jeep)
