Falcon and the Winter Soldier - Trailer (1 Viewer)

Are you disagreeing with my assessment that the in between stuff is what makes Marvel better?

also why would you want tv to do the same as movies?
Better to have separate media for different stories, no?
I agree with your assessment, just not that those moments are as prevalent as you imply.

And, not saying I want TV to do the same as the movies, but I'm not complaining when they do. But, both shows, regardless of tone, have continued to world-build, no? To me, that's the point. To explore more of this "universe." They don't always have to be as creatively quirky as WandaVision. And there are people, I know because they were on this board, who hated WandaVision after the first three episodes.

I guess, the thing is, the show is exactly what I expected from the trailer: a straightforward, action-oriented, "buddy cop" series with a sprinkle of espionage. I really don't know what others were expecting.

I don’t think I implied any sort of frequency
Just a qualitative difference

And as an example of what I’m getting at,
do you prefer Isiah’s intro last week or Sharon’s this?

I don't have a preference as I don't see the comparison. One is a brand new character that provided new information, the other is a character we've met multiple times before. Perhaps your point is going over my head. I guess I'll ask you, what were your expectations going into the show?

Also, I don't get the disappointed reactions to this show. It feels like the movies to me. Heavy on action and quippy dialogue. That's pretty much the MCU formula. I get that it's a shift coming on the heels of WandaVision, but that show stood out because it was unique. From the trailer, FaWS always felt it would be more straightforward.

I think the disappointment that I’ve seen out there, mostly from like the TikTok side, is because WandaVision was SO engaging and mystery driven, while TFATWS is, like you said, much more straightforward. With WandaVision, everyone had a theory about every shot and every line of dialogue, which is really fun until it isn’t, usually when things don’t work out like we all speculated. People were disappointed when Mephisto didn’t show up or when we got the Boner joke, despite the actual product being outstanding and us not having the whole picture yet.

I think when it wraps up, Falcon may not have reached the engagement highs of WandaVision, but it will likely have delivered a very good, grounded piece of entertainment that won’t leave a lot of the casual fans that it brought in confused and/or the diehards and Easter egg hunters disappointed.

tbc i loved the 1st 2 episodes - and i don't know from the tik tok (and it's a fairly lame logical fallacy)
i think you're right in that an episode (or any content) either draws you in or pulls you out
i was pulled out of the episode
i was meh about the Madripool toss custard Gotham thing - everything was very grounded in 1st 2 episodes - the bikes, music, lighting, dialogue, snake drink (wtf??), et al was from a different show - not necessarily a bad show but not TFATWS
but the Sam cellphone thing was just bad bad bad - ******* on that character just for a stupid shootout bit
and the sharon carter character ex machina 'can' work (maybe with Hawkeye or the like) -it just didn't here
plus they gave her a bag of exposition and the character did not move an iota

I told my wife the Madripoor scenes felt like Gotham from the 80’s Batman films. It was very Tim Burton.

More Joel Schumacher, but ONLY from the color scheme.

I don’t know. Guess I’m more forgiving of them setting up a fictional underworld locale. I mean, I get that the rest of the show has been more grounded, but we ARE still in a show lead by guys with a flying backpack and a metal arm.

A lot of the content might be character development and/or world building. Madripoor, the snake drink etc. seems over the top for this show but other shows/movies might return and we won't be pulled out of those because we are already familiar with it.

The flag smashers being in Latvia was exciting and confusing. I'm guessing that Von Doom isn't running things if they were able to operate there as they did. I wonder if their actions will have an effect on his character development.

It seems like Sharon has either turned heel, or is deep under cover.

Latvia does not equal Latveria (i did the same thing)

Seeing as how it's connected to the movies, no, I don't want it to be separate. It shouldn't feel any different to the movies, or not too different. It should all feel like it exists in the same universe since it does.

Yeah, I don't mind them being different, but I do want the shows to be in the context of a larger epic saga.

Not talking about different content
more like tone, pacing and focus
the Medium is the message - tv and movies are different media, so they tell stories differently
