NFL Draft Kyle Trask Pro Day (1 Viewer)

Kyle Trask would be a perfect developmental high upside QB in our O. Of all the borderline/non-1st RD QBs, i think Trask & Newman fit our O the best. Trask, more so than Newman, because of his uncanny ability to fit passes into tight windows & sweet ball ball placement. Would LOVE to see us draft Trask at sone point on Day 2. Its almost like everyone forgot how good & scrappy Trask is. This dudes stats are as impressive as they come. Funny how he gets next to no love. Yet on that note, it seems that our FO is keen on his game.

One thing I like is when Trask moves around in the pocket, he finds the areas where there's no pressure without obviously taking his eyes away from the receivers.

Looks to have a strong feel in the pocket. It's a key skill to being good. It's something I liked about Justin Herbert, but I let people talk me away from him.

I think he is a great fit for what we wanna do. And yeah he has quick twitch pocket movement and can quickly reset his throwing plat form. He makes plays with that trait. Enough arm. Actually veleocity on the above average to good spectrum. I think u got to secure him in the first round if you wanna be in the Trask business. Great size. Good ball placement. With our west coast concepts with a perfect West Coast Wr in CGM and explosive playmaker in Kamara. Trautman has the tools to be very good. Trask can be very good with us. I like him better then Mac Jones, Fields, Lance as a prospect for us.

how big of a risk would it be to trade back a few spaces?

At the 1:29 mark, is that not sean payton himself standing right behind trask? Or a look-a-like? Cant tell

Don't really know his body of work but judging by his pro day I noticed a few things. Every throw had the same arm, shoulder, waist, and right leg motion, including lifting his right foot. Not sure if that is a plus or minus. In a scripted, no pressure pro day he has the luxury of always throwing from his prefered stance. Fields and Wilson in particular threw in some backup fades to the left and right on deep throws.

Also, I thought he was behind his receiver on many of his throws and what was with those throws to stationary receivers who only broke after the ball was in the air?

Obviously, teams don't just make decisions based on pro days alone but this was not one of the better pro day performances.

To reiterate I don't watch a lot of college football. So my impression of the top five QBs comes from their pro day and a few highlight reels. Not the best way to judge.

The forgotten Heisman candidate. Trask is arguably the most accurate QB in this class. He has elite pocket awareness and movement, great at his ability to read defenses pre-snap, go through progressions, and elite accuracy, not only in ball placement, but also accurate in anticipation of where his receiver will be and reads of the defense.

“Trask said teams are most impressed with his ball placement. He said that they like his ability to turn a 50-50 ball into an 80-20 ball for his receivers.”

Combine that with elite size and a solid arm, and I strongly believe, if Trask lands with the right team—like the Saints west coast offense—he may end up one of the best QBs in this class. He has a stronger arm than it appears some believe, and can make all the throws. (“Trask clearly has the arm strength” Lance Zierlein NFL.com Draft Profile)

“Smart, accurate pocket passer who displayed consistent progress in his game through the years. Patient, remains poised as the pocket collapses around him, and consistently scans the field going through progressions. Senses the rush, moves outside the pocket to buy time, and throws with a fluid over over-the-top delivery. Locates the open wideout and goes to the safe, underneath outlet if necessary.
Consistently keeps his eyes downfield and distributes the ball using all his targets. Consistently identifies the open wideout, anticipates where his receivers will be, and hits targets in stride. Accurate and does not make pass catchers work hard based on his ability to place throws. Effective setting up screen throws. Does a great job commanding and controlling the offense.”

Sure he was surrounded with elite receiving options, but some of their achievements should be credited to Trask as well. And is that really a knock? It isn't like Trask was merely average with those receivers. Trask was 4th in the heisman race because he was exceptional. Trasks one bad game was against Oklahoma. He performed poorly, but with his top 3 receivers out. Regardless of their talent, any QB will drop off if his #4 receiver is now #1, #5 now #2, etc., especially with a guy like Trask who excels at anticipating where his receivers will be, which clearly is affected when you lose your top 3 familiar targets, along with numerous other obvious problems—not getting separation, coverage sacks, etc.

The guy's only real knock is mobility. He isn't Kyler Murray, but Trask had 2 rushing TDs against LSU and 1 against Alabama. He isn't a slug by any stretch of the imagination and is certainly capable of running. Our current system is setup for Trask's style play with Brees anyway.

I’d love to see Saints land Trask at 28.

Welcome to the Saints first round draft pick.

I would hope we will move up to the top of the third round and pick Trask if he is available there. But I hate giving up our two third round picks.
That being said we probably will miss out on Kyle Trask.
Our first round has to be a top cornerback. The draft is deep at corner and wide receiver.
If the Top CBs are gone we pick Linebacker, like Zaven Collins at 28. Collins will be a stud at LBer. It's a real toss up who our pick will be at 28.
I hope we make moves to have 2 second round picks. That is near impossible for us.
Our priority needs should be in this order, CB, LB, DL, QB.
However we almost always go with Best Player Available on our Draft Board.
If I sound indecisive, it's because at this point I am. LOL

You’ll just have to watch some of his games. Trask is a baller. His ability to sense pressure, move in the pocket, keep eyes downfield, and stay calm is uncanny. Then add his work ethic, understanding of offense and defense, size, arm, and accuracy. I think Trask is going to be one of the best QBs in this class.
“Between the accuracy and decision making of what Trask is doing, then you throw in the play-making ability and depth of this Florida roster, they’re just loaded at the skill spots and tight ends, it’s a great combination,” Herbstreit said. “His greatest strength is his ability to process Dan Mullen’s scheme, process coverage know where to go with the ball and there’s no hesitation.”
“I don’t think he’s just in the conversation,” Herbstreit said. “If people don’t just go by preseason expectations of Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, if you just watch this guy play and the numbers he’s putting up, I think he’s right there, toe to toe with anybody in the entire country.”

If the Saints view Trask as a potential franchise guy like I do, the first round pick makes a lot of sense. 1) you secure picking your guy for the most important position in football, and 2) using first round gives us 5th year option.
QB will stay the top need, imo, until we know we have our guy long term.

I definitely would not be disappointed if Trask would be the pick at 28. Our QB for the long term.
And deep inside I have always wanted Trask at 28, it's exciting that we would be that much closer to our next franchise QB.
People forget that Trask was a 72+% completion rate QB best in the nation, until he had those 2 bad games at the end of the season.
To me Kyle Trask is a First Round Talent QB.
It doesn't change that our priority picks are a Top CB, LB, DL, QB.

I said this in another thread, but I think only Miami has two second rd picks (I could be wrong) and if we were to trade down with them, they would only part with their lower second rd pick (based on trade value). So, it may not be a good option to do that. Things could happen before the draft, but if things stay the status quo, then I don’t see trading down as a viable option unfortunately

Not a Trask fan. I think he benefited a lot more from having elite playmakers.

If SP takes him, I’ll trust him. But wouldn’t be thrilled.
