Saints Does anyone Else (feel different about the saints?) mod edit (1 Viewer)

I'm as excited about this coming season than I have any season since I became a fan in 88. Win lose or Draw I am a saints fan, if we don't win or don't win enough games it still does not take away from the individuals players who perform great or young players who may become the staple players once the team starts to win again.

Post like these are so strange to me because it just sounds like people are truly fans of this team they are bandwagon fans who rooted for them because they won and its easy to get behind a winner but if the team falls back to the "same ole saints" era people will be jumping off the bandwagon where I WILL be still rooting for this team because this is MY Team.

Honestly I thought we were done back in 2016. We were coming off of three straight 7-9 seasons and it looked like the ride with Drew was nearing the end. In the five seasons from '12 to '16 we only had one winning season. So to me these last four years of dominant football have been like the cherry on top.

We're probably going to fall back to the 7 win range for a year or two unless Winston is legit. If he's legit then anything is possible.

Those 2014 to 2016 seasons, I felt there were a little bit of apathy with fans. I was a little concern and bothered to the fact that some fans were getting bored or didn't care for the team during its hard times. In fact I read or heard Payton thought about moving on after 2015. I wasn't ready to give up and glad I didn't. The question I have is if we do go through years of mediocrity, will fans be patient? How patient and how much will fan invest in the team?

I have been getting a Kerry Collins/Jim Everett vibe from the QB position and sometimes fear a Billy Joel situation. But other than concerns about filling the defensive holes correctly in the draft, I still feel pretty good overall about the team.

As long as we have Payton I feel like we will remain a solid competitive team. I do feel like we will struggle (maybe not struggle but definitely won't be at the level we are used to) at QB for a little while unless Winston does come out matured and shows everyone what he can really do. We've never NEEDED a QB under Payton until now and I'm sure he will be all over it doing his homework to find the next Franchise QB.

Collins was actually a really good QB when could stay sober. Being an alcoholic living in N.O. just isn't a good combination. Everett was average. The Billy Joe's, that was just some horrible talent evaluation from Mike Ditka. Sadly, when he came to us he could no longer evaluate talent. I mean Danny Wuerfule, the Billy Joe's, Heath Shuler, Troy Davis, pretty much anyone he drafted except for Ricky who he drastically over paid for.

I am leaning toward a 10-win season, but I am still trying to see how they will build the rest of the roster out.

I'm actually excited to see what happens next. I have no expectations so if we fall back, I'll understand completely. If we do well, I'll be happy and pleasantly surprised.

It will be a nice break on my nerves after the past couple of years because we were loaded and every loss and injury and ref blunder and Jared Cook fumble destroyed me.
This ^. I've always said, it's about the voyage, not the destination. I'm actually more excited this year than I have been in years past.

You should feel pretty good. Sean Payton is not Mike Ditka.

I don't see a Superbowl in the next couple of years, but I do expect to see a team that consistently gets at least a wild card spot in the playoffs.

I’m as big a fan as I’ve ever been, but the worry is warranted. With Brees, we always felt we had a chance. Now, we’re entering back into the unknown. We saw what happened with the Patriots. We could be in for a rocky few years or longer. Or, we could luck out and Winston play great, getting us right back to the playoffs. Or we might draft the next big thing at QB, but have to wait a few years from him to develop. No one knows, but it definitely is more of an uneasy feeling than usual.

Actually I feel kinda excited. I’m sure there will be some bumps, but with the decline of Brees, the taking out of certain routes and such the offense had gotten somewhat boring and just playing safe. Now IF Winston can come in and play up to or even near his massive physical ability it should make for an interesting, if not exciting season. I have all the trust in Payton honestly.

Me too. Also, the no-call destroyed my faith in the game/ the league. I kept supporting two years more hoping in a championship for Drew, but now that he’s gone I kind of lost the purpose of cheering a game with no Hall of Famer + joke reffing
