To Disney or not to Disney... 2022 (1 Viewer)

We went last October.

They are as serious as it gets when it comes to restrictions. Masks must stay over your nose nonstop.

And as much as possible, they were weaving the lines outside of the buildings that most of the rides are contained in. I remember thinking, “This is going to be murder to people if this is still going on during the summer.”

Another couple things to think about. When we were there, all of the characters were isolated away from people. And there was no end-of-the-day fireworks/celebration event at any of the parks. Kind of took away from our experience, to be honest. Again, perhaps they’ve adjusted these things. But I doubt it, given how seriously they’ve been approaching it.

I didn't mind any of it. With 6ft separation, lines went really fast. Bus rides and gondola (skyliner) rides... Great. Only our family per gondola and bus had max 16 folks (I remember days of standing room only)

There were no extras like u said, but that didn't bother us all that much.

Dining was different as you ordered from app (in park and resort) and picked up when alerted but once we got the hang of it, wasn't bad.

Somone also mentioned characters. They were apart from crowd. So if ur lil ones love to meet em, that may be an issue, but I would also think by 2022 things should be close to normal (I hope)

It wasn’t too bad, but again, this was ‘offseason’ in October. My concern was those folks who will be there in the Central Florida heat during peak season in the summer. The crowds and heat are already nearly unbearable. Imagine standing outside for 2 hours waiting to get on Pandora with a cloth mask on your face. I’m not an anti-masker. I just don’t see how people will be able to physically endure it, if they have the same measures in place. They’ve got to at least get those waiting lines back indoors as much as possible.

I will say that we went before Christmas (and once before Halloween about 5 years apart) and we bought tickets to Mickeys holiday party (and the Halloween party) where the park closed at 7pm and if you had tickets you could stay in the park until 1 am. there was about a 1/4 of the people during and were able to ride every ride with little or no lines at Magic Kingdom. for the Christmas one, my daughter and I rode space mountain at least 10 times in a row, not exaggerating, the last 5 times we didn't even have to get off. The Halloween one, we rode Splash Mountain that many times in a row. The only way I'd do back is under those circumstances, for only that 5 or 6 hours..

The second time we went, my wife set it all up, and after everything was booked, we got the 2 kids in the room and she said "if you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you want to go?" both looked at us and said at the same time "GREAT WOLF! (water park that we went 2 years before)
My wife says too bad, we are going back to Disney.. I was with them, but I didn't say that out loud, I didn't want to sleep on the couch.

We're going the third week of May. We really wanted to go to New York, but that just didn't seem like a good idea with the status of things there. Disney seemed like the safest option. The kids are grown, 19 and 21, but they love Disney (wife and I do, too) so it seemed like the safest place and it's been 5 years since we've been. We've all been vaccinated (19 y.o. gets his second in 2 weeks). We'll be flying, but taking all precautions.

So me and the Mrs. are doing the same. We are actually looking at taking a Disney Cruise out of Port Canaveral, FL and taking a 3 night cruise to the private disney island in the Bahamas with my cousin's family in June 2022.
Then we are thinking about driving over to DisneyWorld for a few more days to see the parks. We have two boys age 8 and 5. We went about 3 years ago now in November and loved it. We only had 2 days at the parks then and just wasn't enough time. We are thinking about maybe doing 3 or 4 days then driving back home to the Northshore.
They have some specials right now where when you book a 3 or 4 night stay they give you one or two more days of free park fare. Not a bad deal when you consider the price of tickets. We are a go every few years type of family. My cousin goes every year so.

So has anyone taken a disney cruise? Specifically out of Port Canaveral, FL to go to the Disney island Castaway Cay? Anyone driven to Disneyworld before or after?
Would that be too much for my young boys?? We wanted to start saving and booking now to save money. Any thoughts advice is welcome.
The previous trip we spent one day at Magic Kingdom and one day at Animal Kingdom.

And the endless debate question: do we stay on site or off site?? Is staying on site really worth the extra money? and if so where for a reasonable price?

I get you. We flew last time. Unfortunately we flew Spirit. It was okay, but just got too expensive with all the 'upgrades' that spirit gets you on. We just simply can't afford to fly especially when only ten hours. Yes that's far, but not like crazy far. We both work for schools so we have summers off but not a ton of money since LA doesn't value public education but that's a different issue.
Anyway, we are looking at driving to save the money and spend at the park/cruise.

I can't wait for Disney Cruises to be open again. We want to do the Mediterranean Cruise from Spain to Italy in June 2022. We have done the cruise you are talking about 4 times and gone to DisneyWorld either after or before, depending on how the schedule worked out. Once you take a Disney Cruise, you'll never want to do a different one. Castaway Cay is awesome. There is a lot to do there and it's safe and private. Nassau... not so much. My best advice for Nassau is to book the Blue Lagoon Island excursion. We have done the Dolphin swim and the Sea Lion encounter there and both were great. If you don't want to do those, just book a beach day there. You will enjoy it much more with kids than anything in Nassau and Atlantis is way too expensive. Or, you could just stay on the ship in Nassau, which we have done, too. Let me know if you have any other questions about the cruise.

We prefer to stay onsite at Disney, but we have done both. If you are driving anyway, it's not a bad idea to stay off site. My advice for staying offsite is too book a house or a condo instead of a hotel. Way more room and still way cheaper than staying on grounds. On grounds, Art Of Animation has larger rooms than most of the other less expensive hotels, but the lobby is still crowded. I prefer the higher priced hotels, but sometimes if we are going with others, we end up staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation. I would rather avoid the All Stars, but that's me.

We mostly drive, too. It's not a bad drive honestly. We've flown before when pressed for time, but I prefer to drive. We pretty much go every year.

Well I heard recently though that if you are staying on the disney properties they have a free airport shuttle to pick you up or drop you off. Is that true?? Because that would definitely save on rental car costs or uber costs.

That used to be true, but I think they just discontinued it or are about to discontinue it. Too many people were just going with Uber instead because they could schedule it. For the airport bus you have to be on their schedule. Once you are on Disney property, though, you can use all Disney transportation, including a bus ride to the Cruise which is about an hour away. Even if we drive to Disney, we park at the hotel and we only get back in our car to drive home.

Cool. thanks guys for the responses/answers. Sounds like it was a good service but will not be around in 2022. Oh well.

What on site places would you guys recommend. Not crazy expensive but doesn't have to be the cheapest like the All-star resorts.

And what off-site places would you guys recommend. Thanks again.
