Analyzing the Saints Wide Receiver Group as A Threat in 2021 (1 Viewer)

Homer-ist or not, I like Terrence Marshall in that role. I see a lot of MT's game in Jamar Chase, and Marshall's game was a perfect compliment to that.

Terrace Marshall would be an absolute stud across from MT. He's going to be a W1 whatever team he goes to so putting him across from MT would really open on the offense.

He has a very high ceiling for sure but needs to work on route running and more consistent hands....That said, I hope we don't take him in 1st round we have too many holes on the D right now....

We know we need linebackers. That is certain.

Wide receiver is the biggest question mark we have as a group. I am not sure if the problem consist on needing more/different receivers. We need our young guys to turn from good prospects to good players. To be available, to be trustworthy.

Harris (Devery's speedster) , Callaway (Lance Moore third down converter) and Smith (Meachem's hybrid) have a complementary role to Mike Thomas (Colston). In paper they all can fill their role, but the problem is that today we are not certain any of them will show the maturity to turn to reliable players.

A 42 year old Brees - who was a shell of himself at times - was still a top 5-10 QB in the NFL, and it's not even debatable... We will be replacing one of the greatest players to ever grab a football... with either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill in all likelihood this year...

It will be pressing, and extremely likely that there will be a significant drop off in offensive production as a result...

We need to take mitigating steps to stem that regression if we can...

I don't disagree about needs on defense... I disagree on priority.

I disagree... I think the offense will be more explosive. You mention that players couldn’t get open past 5yds, but the real problem is that that’s all the space the receivers had to get open. If they couldn’t get open in the first five yards, then Brees could barely throw it past that point. And when a defense knows that then they flood the first 10yds past the line of scrimmage. With Winston we won’t have that problem. And it’s no coincidence that suddenly MT was getting open when Taysom was in at QB. We were able to work the intermediate parts of the field.

Get ready for better offense than the past few years, but worse defense. I don’t expect it to be like 2014-2016, but somewhere in between where we were then and where we were the past three years.

One guy I could see us target realistically is Dyami Brown. Game breaking speed. Averaged 50+ catches the last two seasons, 1,000+ yards, 10 TDs per season, and 20 yards per catch. He could be had in the third round.

He could stand to gain a little muscle and work on his explosiveness out of his cuts but he could easily manage that with NFL coaches.

I personally believe the way to use Deonte as a WR successfully and him avoid injury is to not use him on the jet sweeps and bubble screens. I would think that would help eliminate the some of the big hits from defenders coming downhill on him. I know I am not being specific but I think he could be a good speed guy that could be helpful and productive even with the 10-20% snaps as some here have suggested hi ceiling is.

That being said I too would like to see a good WR taken to bolster depth and or compete for that #2-3 spot. Though I will admit that I have my heart set on Zaven Collins lol.

I don’t think we necessarily need a burner...Harris fills that role. I think we really could use a do it all guy like Emmanuel Sanders. Versatility is incredibly important for matchups. Right now the Saints really only have Kamara as a guy that you don’t know what he’s doing. You add another guy like that and it’ll open up the playbook for everyone. Lots of guys likethat in the draft.
💯 in agreement that Harris COULD fit that role perfectly. I just don’t think he will stay healthy, and the best ability is availability. Imo.
Harris is one of my favorite Saints, just wish he could stay healthy.

Me too brother.
Could we have both? 🤔😊

The Saints have met with Anthony Schwartz and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

So they definitely are looking at the top burners of the draft.

Schwartz is the fastest player in the entire draft.

I think the offense has the potential to be better, I think it is going to come down to how well we protect the football and stick with the running game. I think the D can be as good as last year's if we prioritize it in the draft, Ireland is really good at drafting defense....

We need a WR that can get separation. One of the things the Saints will miss with Drew is his ability to throw to guys to where they can get yardage after the catch because of his accuracy. Jameis will sometimes have his difficulties in that department.

The New Orleans Saints are amid turnover in the positions such as quarterback, linebacker, cornerback, defensive end, and defensive tackle. When it comes to their offensive personnel, everyone except Emmanuel Sanders, Jared Cook, and Josh Hill will be returning next season.

"28. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS — WR TERRACE MARSHALL, LSU

The Saints have the most vacated end-zone targets from last year, which could put them in a position to draft a wide receiver with a nose for scoring. LSU’s Terrace Marshall Jr. ranks 12th in end-zone targets over the past two seasons, and his PFF receiving grade on those targets ranks fourth-best (93.5).

He and Michael Thomas could form a formidable duo with Marshall lined up out wide. Since the start of 2019, Marshall owns the league’s highest passer rating generated (158.3) when targeted from an out-wide alignment."

I don't think people understand how much a burner with size and hands means to a team, not only receiving wise, but running game wise, and in this case with us this year, Jameis wise. Or Taysom wise :)

Yeah, but we need a burner we can put on the field at least 60% - 70% of snaps. We can't do that with Harris. He's 1) too valuable in the return game, and 2) too injury prone.
