To add to that, when Kamara went to Alabama, he was in the same class as Derrick Henry, and the starting running backs that year were TJ Yeldon and Kenyan Drake.

That was one loaded backfield.
It also shows how talent evaluation for draft prospects is hardly an exact science. And team fit is important too. If the Jets had drafted Kamara in the 1st, he may have gotten lost in all the dysfunction.

I'd be surprised if it was Mcshay.

Then again he was the one driving the Jamarcus Russell hype train in 2007.

I was checking ESPN.

I didn't see his name anywhere for 4th round best available.

I think it's McShay, but I didn't pay attention to who it was when they came on and they have just been running tape and not showing the analysts. I looked it up and the internet says it's Kiper, Riddick, and McShay, but I'm not certain it's true and I don't watch ESPN enough to recognize the voices.

Anway, Book is certainly not the guy I would have taken in the 4th, but I'm hopeful that a WR with deep speed falls to the 6th or 7th or is available as an UDFA.

He’s just not that good.. Not a whole lot of upside but he’s a good camp body. Of course I’ll pull for him to be the best backup possible

I said in the Ian book thread that he's the new Taysom. If Payton can develop Book into even a backup-caliber QB that would be his greatest accomplishment.

Book can be a gadget guy and throw an occasional pass, but I just don't see him as an NFL QB.

But good luck Sean.

You got two fringe starting QBs who need deep help to relieve pressure and a defense that's made of jelly right up the gut.

I see your point.

I'm out of this thread.✌

Sure, but none of us here know exactly what the Saints game plan in the draft room is. Maybe they have some ideas in free agency, maybe they are thinking trade, maybe they think there will be other ways to shore up weaknesses. I don't think this will break anything other than maybe the pick if Book doesn't pan out. I think we all hope he does well, even if we think he doesn't.

I agree we have other needs, but I don't think picking Book is necessarily detrimental to that goal. I trust Payton and Ireland will figure it out. Time will tell if this works out or not.

One other point: The Saints have been one of the most successful teams drafting despite not having many picks over the years. No team has every one of their draft picks turn into starters or HOF players. It just doesn't happen because it's not an exact science. The Saints have also had an uncanny ability to draft starters from their UDFAs in the post-draft, which tells me they can coach up guys who might not be completely polished coming out of college.
There you go making sense again

Our QB of the future. Brees retired so you have to get talent in that QB room and Winston and Hill are on 1yr deals and Winston can either play himself out the spot of to expensive to keep in the spot (still salary cap restraints) and if Payton can get production out of Hill then Ian Book will thrive under Payton's tuteledge.

0% chance he’s the future. Unless some miracle takes place.

It has absolutely nothing to do with anything on this whole board, but I have always followed Navy football and your icon is my favorite alternate helmet of theirs ever. :)
I bought a real one. It’s in my study at the house. It’s my favorite also and I haven’t missed an Army-Navy game since I joined the military in 1991....thats my favorite college game period over any others. Not the best athletes and none will get drafted cause they are all moving on to destroy terrorists as a career usually. But it’s very enjoyable ! Go Navy !

Beat Army!

I have a mini-helmet but it is the traditional gold. That one in the mini tends to cost an arm and a leg. Army-Navy is a bucket list for me. I've been talking the talk for years, just haven't walked the walk.

As long as we ignore the 2018 draft, then yes, the Saints have a solid track record over the last decade+

Hey, maybe the Saints will bring in Josh Gordon and watch him tantalize with his skill then suffer strike 19 of the NFL's 20 strikes and you're out substance abuse policy and be suspended again.

So many needs (DT, WR, LB, TE) and they do that......

The only real need you listed is probably LB. We're still deep at DT and we always seem to find one in UDFA. SP is clearly happy with what he has, and again, UDFA might bring a gem. A blocking TE can be found anywhere, and didn't they already bring that guy from Denver in? We can upgrade, sure, but I'd hardly say those positions (LB aside) are actual holes.

CB is still the real hole.
