Underhill shared how Winston can meet all his incentives (1 Viewer)

It is still Taysom's to basically LOSE. Winston will have to win the starting QB job "hands down" for CSP to put the ball in his hands that much a game. Taysom will have to show that his other skills are more valuable than his QB play...so, it is still Taysom's to lose. As I said many times before, IF Winston does start, we won't know who he really is until week 5 and I have a feeling, he ends up losing the starting job. He has to re-invent himself completely as a QB. He COULD get it all together and it is a win/win for us or he could literally be #3...he has ability to swing that much.

I agree, I think it's even odds on him being a top 10 qb, a middle of the road qb and a bottom 10 qb.

I'm with you in spirit. That said there is also the traditional penalty already in place. Throw too many interceptions and it is mondo hard to throw TDs from the bench. 😆
I agree that he might be pulled if he throws way too many ints, but if he throws more TDs than turnovers, Payton will probably stick with him. Winston may not think he can achieve a 93 QB rating, but I bet he knows that he can exceed 25 TDs by taking extra risks. I believe the TD incentive would’ve been much better had it been linked to a ratio of turnovers. There may be some fluke turnovers, but there will also be fluke TDs. A QB that values the ball will have a good ratio. I want Winston thinking about valuing the ball as much as getting TDs. If he does, he’ll be successful. I want that incentive directly, not indirectly from concern about being pulled. He may think Payton may pull him, but after a few Taysom turnovers, then he’ll be back in to keep taking chances to get TDs.

I don't think there is any QB in the league that takes a penalty in a contract for throwing interceptions.

It's like me asking an employee to dock their pay for every grammatical mistake they have in their performance evaluation.

No one in their right mind would be stupid enough to sign a contract penalizing something that could be out of their control. Look how many tipped balls went for interceptions for Drew Brees.
Plus, I want Winston playing loose and with confidence. I don't want him second guessing every throw. Heck, imagine him throwing 2 INTs early in a game he'll start checking every thing down after that.

I would rather that then throw 2 more interceptions late in the game. Ha.

And you'd probably see that about that same number were dropped by the defenders. So it usually all evens out.
Half of his INTS were not tipped balls and or dropped by defenders. He had ONE legit dropped pass that was accurate and he lost it behind his back. There were some that were tipped by the D, to another defender. Look at how many were bad throws to a completely covered WR. You really have to watch this video and that will show the truth behind those INTs. He also threw 13 passes that were tipped or dropped by the defense. He has almost a 7% adjusted INT rate per pass.

It amazes me that some of you all think Payton will put up with a QB throwing a lot of interceptions. Talk about losing incentives. Throw a bunch of stupid interceptions and all he'll get is his base and a ticket out of town.

I don't like that there isn't a penalty involved with throwing interceptions or at least make the TD to int ratio the basis of getting money. I would've made the TD bonuses subject to the TD to int ratio, such that he only gets it if he is at 2 to 1 TD to int and then double the incentive if he reaches those with a 3 to 1 ratio, or make it for the ratio of turnovers to include fumbles.
Soooo, don't like it!!!

everything he shares on instagram shows him working out, passing the ball, and on the couch studying film and playbooks, he seems motivated and more mature..

I hope so, but just because he shows it on social media doesn't mean he is putting in more work than someone who isn't putting it on social media.

I'm hoping his social media post is being done for motivation and accountability. And I do agree he seems to be motivated and more mature.
