Good Read on Ian Book (I think Brees had some input on that pick) (1 Viewer)

If this article doesn’t get you excited about this young man and what he can do for the saints if Payton can groom him then there is something wrong. Stranger things have happened. He will be fun to hear about in training camp and exciting to watch in Pre season. He sounds like a Russell Wilson type with Brees mentality. I’m pulling for this kid to make it! Hopefully he uses that chip on his shoulder like Brees did and the results are similar.

I'm also finding myself getting more intrigued with Book the more I learn about him. The last part of the article really hits on a key point; that Book is coming into a situation that is already tailored in a way to give him an optimal chance to find NFL success. He's joining a coach who has created a blueprint for winning with a QB of similar stature and arm talent. From his standpoint, he couldn't have landed in a better spot.

I honestly think this is more important than the measurables. Being in the right fit sometimes make players to legend and those in wrong fit forgotten. I always think of randy moss with Oakland then Pats

I think arm strength is the most overrated aspect for a qb. Arm stamina might even be more important. Accuracy is far more important, as is intelligence and lead wr ship skills.

About 2-3 years ago, Nick did a big article on Drew (and Tom) and how they trained an aging arm
It said arm strength was no longer a concern (they weren’t going to get any back), but they certainly worked hard to maintain arm speed
Drew would only throw a ball about 1/3rd as heavy as a regular ball

Sounds like a young Drew Brees. Gonna be first into the building amd last one to leave. Going to study and study until he gets it right. His stats are better than Drew’s college stats.

Not singling out the poster on this response but I hope that we, as fans, don't fall into the trap of looking for the next Drew Brees. We were very fortunate to get Brees and Payton when we did and that facilitated the building of one of the most prolific passing offenses in league history. Brees was just driven to be the best at his position. You don't find that kind of drive very often. Now, if we land a QB that has the same type of drive that Brees has and is able to execute it on gameday then that's gravy. However, chances are we won't.

If we are fortunate to have a situation like the 49ers had with Young following Montana then we have caught lightning in a bottle. The more realistic situation is for the organization to find a QB that can execute Payton's offense with the weapons around them and minimize the mistakes. We shall see.

I like Ian Book and hope he has success but at the same time, I'm hoping that we have history repeating itself in the form of a talented QB being cast off by the former team and teaming up with Sean Payton to create the prolific offense. With Winston having a much stronger arm than Brees, i'm hoping to see a return of the offense that scared defenses with the ability to go over the middle with the TE, underneath with the back out the backfield or over the top if defenses try to cheat.
