USMNT - The Berhalter Era (3 Viewers)

surprising no MSUsousaphone around?

One of the guest analysts on SFC this morning that was really interesting. He said US fans shouldn’t get too involved in critiquing the late-game sloppy play in the back or other lapses along gjr. He said we have to remember the time and place of this game - early June after the players have just come off of a compacted (Covid) club schedule, many of them playing well into mid and even late May. Very limited practice time and still integrating new faces.

He said the far more important thing is the result. The resolve. The ability to counter-punch in the first half. Counter-punch in the second half. The belief that they could win never faltered and this kind of experience pays big dividends for a young team proceeding toward WC qualifying.

shoot yeah...and i would argue that Mexico looked "leggier" than we did in ET. Not to say we werent a bit fatigued, but the mental focus never left and thats usually what happens when legs get tired.

CPs move, once he had the ball in the box, was clear indication that his mind was as sharp in the 110th min as it was in the 1st. He KNEW he was running at defenders that have played 110 min. Meaning, they are a 1/2 step slower now than an hour ago and mistakes are bound to happen.

and it did. CP is the full package.

I’m new to soccer and only getting into it because the son plays and he’s a big fan of Messi. He’s going to a camp this summer but any of tips besides just supporting him?

become a Manchester United supporter. it will make him a better player.

;)

how old? my recommendation is to simply support him. Allow him to organically develop a love for the game. If able, take him to a game or two ( if you can ) live.

Tell him he can't use his hands unless he's the goal-keeper.

He’s 8 and Houston has a MLS team so we have a planned game in August. Hate to say it but he’s learned the rules and gotten some of his skill from playing FIFA on Xbox.

Sorry he loves Barcelona lol

I actually think playing a sport's video game is a great way to learn rules and basic gameplay, tactics, substitution process, etc.

I learned hockey that way in the mid-90s, been a big fan ever since.

Nothing wrong with learning the game that way. Enjoy these younger years of soccer. Once they get 12, 13+, the game gets rougher, more aggressive, more competitive and that's just the fans.

You mean like his baseball seasons now. It’s just crazy how some parents act at these games sometimes.

well he’s been playing FPPS but he wants a more competitive league now. His coach thinks he could handle it too

I didn’t see it but what happened after Mexico coach got the red card? Was it a free kick or a penalty kick for USA?

what a great age. Its ok i wont hold that against him ;)

Yeah, rec ball, take in some matches. Shoot, if USMNT WC qualifiers around, take him to one of those.

As for learning, well to be honest, he is ahead of the kid that doesnt play xbox and just started out having to learn as he goes. Nothing wrong with mimicking the play of Messi and others.

as far as tips- coaching matters. Even at that age, just be sure there is a even mix of fundamentals and fun. Coaching at that age should be ALL about fundamentals of the game and pizza or ice cream after - win or lose.

we were awarded a PK - red card was for Tata interfering /touching the ref as he viewed VAR.
