I just have to keep trying to show this (1 Viewer)

Prince utterly destroys Kurt Cobain as a guitar player. It’s not even close. They’re not even in the same league. It’s like comparing a Single-A minor league relief pitcher to Sandy Koufax.

Agreed, technically Prince can play things Cobain can’t, that you cannot argue.

Paco De Lucia, Steve Morse, Al DiMeola, John McGlaughlin, and Tobin Abasi can play things that technically Prince could never aspire to....

It really just comes down to the sound you like the most....

Once again, I will say this about Queen. They were the best band I ever heard live. Age has it's benefits. :) . I saw them in 82,and Billy Squire was the opening act. I'll never forget that concert. Hearing Freddie sing live was a honor.

Must of been fun. What was your second favorite band, that you seen live?

It really depends on the mood I'm in. I've seen ELO,Van Halen,AC/DC,The Who,Metallica,Judas Priest,Iron Maiden,Lynard Skynard and others I'm forgetting about . They were all great. The only bad concert I ever went to was Hank Williams Jr. He was so drunk he couldn't sit in a chair without falling to the floor. I sat through about 15 minutes and left.

Uh-oh, Iron Maiden fan. lol Usually Iron Maiden fans are die hards. I'm surprised you kept bringing up Ohio Players, when you are into metal.

Hank Williams Jr., is that country?

I can listen to everything but Opera. I enjoy Funk,Metal,Country,Jazz and some pop. Yes, Hank was pretty much country.

Yeah, opera not my favorite either. It has to be the right song, I can appreciate some of it maybe.

So, who is the best country singer of all time?

It's really hard to say,and once again a matter of opinion. He stopped loving her today by George Jones is up there imo. Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash is another.

I will also said one of the greatest C&W songs was recorded by David Allen Coe. You never even called me by my name. When someone played it on the jukebox, the entire bar began singing the lyrics. Fun times.

It was a standard song until the last verse. Steve Goodman was a very famous C&W writer. Coe preformed a few of his songs. Goodman believed he wrote the perfect Country song. Coe. wrote him a letter saying it's not perfect. Goodman then added a final verse that said the following.

a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country & western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was
Not the perfect country & western song because he hadn't said anything at all about mama,
Or trains,
Or trucks,
Or prison,
Or getting' drunk
Well he sat down and wrote another verse to the song
And he sent it to me,
And after reading it,
I realized that my friend had written the perfect
Country & western song
And I felt obliged to include it on this album
The last verse goes like this here:

Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run ned over by a damned old train

Ranker is user driven - so it’s essentially a live poll
It’s a good way to survey the general popularity of something, but it’s very subject to recency concerns
I imagine the recent movie created significant movement in the rankings

Outside of a few arias, I typically avoid opera
But I do see Don Giovanni at the Met and it’s a top 10 all time theatre experience for me

Kris Kristofferson - very good voice and unequaled lyricist

i also wish cowboy junkies got more notice as a c&w band, Margot’s voice singing Michael’s songs is just special

I'm late to the party, but anyways I agree with OP on Billy Sheehan being best bassist. My favorite band of all time is Mr. Big. Paul Gilbert is an amazing guitarist. Although my personal favorite guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt. A very overlooked musician. I kind of go deep diving into the Glam/Hard rock of the early 90s. Bands like Tyketto, Von Groove, Harem Scarem just to name a few.

I pretty much go by www.melodicrock.com to hear about new albums and artists.

Both you and my next door neighbor agree on Paul Gilbert, he is incredible. I love Sheehan, but Jaco Pastorious, Dave LaRue and John Entwistle are guys I love a little more.....Gilbert was fantastic in Racer X also....

John Entwistle
It's just my opinion and selective, but I believe Entwistel was the most talented member of the group and that's high praise.

I say the same thing about Cliff Burton and Metallica
