Comic Con Talk (Renamed since LA Comic Con can't get it together) (3 Viewers)

I saw some people saying that they had to wait an hour to even get in the building and then were told it would be another one to two hours before they could get into the main hall after that. AVC said it was their first time running this building and they were working on expediting it, but I guess demand was that high. I've been to a lot of AVC cons (including MS, but at the old building) and never had to wait like that.

As to Con Funk, I'm always thankful that Man Made Soap out of Shreveport does most regional cons because their booth always smells really nice and provides an oasis from the foul and unwashed.
Man Made was there and you're right about that.

So this year, they actually used the entire facility (the Trade Mart and the stadium).
The entrance was in the front of the coliseum, but the people parking on the back side didn't know there were about 8 entry doors. So you had one huge line going around both buildings to the back parking lot. I parked in the front and got right in one of the other doors. They needed more signs out there. They also didn't have enough people at the tables taking payments. It was the same as in 2019. Spreading them out doesn't help the shear number of people trying to get in.

Hope they fix things before they get to Lafayette.

So I ventured to Houston this past weekend for Comicpalooza. Damn good show even though it was light on the guests, especially comic creators. I was able to scratch to grails off my list. One was a first print The Killing Joke, which I lost in Katrina. The other was this bad boy...

Of course it isn't the greatest condition for its age, but it's not bad considering there was a 4.5 CBCS guy was trying to sell for $1,200. No thanks.

With the way numbers are going, I wonder if the organizers are starting to get a little nervous for LaCC at the end of the month? I'm starting to question whether or not I want to go into that packed of an environment, especially with my kids.

They're going to have to do something. If enough guests cancel, they won't have a choice. Celebrity Fan Fest in San Antonio just cancelled because they lost three major guests.

Geekd Con already announced they're full steam ahead albeit with mask mandate.

I'm not doing either this year. Numbers are just too bad even with masking for me to attempt it.

I know both have had a few guests cancel for unspecified reasons do for but its not hard to figure out.

Just makes me sad / mad because this is another con me and the kids won't get to attend. They're getting older and in a few more years, they'll be in college, so I doubt they'll want to hang out with dad at a con. I'm missing out on that time with them because of this damn virus.

Yeah. It really sucks. As I was leaving GalaxyCon this past weekend, I was telling myself this might be the last con I attend this year if numbers don't improve (only other event I was planning on attending outside of possibly LACC was Baltimore CC).

At least I was able to meet Jim Shooter and got him to sign my Secret Wars #8. Creative team, minus letterer, complete.

Louisiana CC is still a go with the mandate in place. Two minutes guests have cancelled though.

It can still be a go all it wants, but I've pretty much decided I won't be sticking myself and the kids in harm's way. Unless a miracle happens and the numbers fall off a cliff tomorrow, I don't see the numbers being anywhere near at a comfortable level by the end of the month.

Yeah. It's going to be real tough to go that route. Sucks it's my birthday weekend.

Yep, that definitely does suck. Just imagine how many people are going to wear their mask to get through the door and then take it off once they're inside. And you know that the convention center is a big place, but you also know how many people are in there. It's jam packed at times. I hate to miss and wouldn't have thought twice about it if the numbers were still low, but now? Not gonna happen. Honestly, I'd be shocked if they didn't try to postpone it again.
