Exactly. And I still believe that people are over emphasizing the deep ball. Payton has had three different QB’s line up under center these past two seasons. The deep ball may have been dialed up a total of six times between them all. It’s the mastery of timing and the short to intermediate passing game that has made the Saints consistently potent. It’s ball control and efficiency. It’s also knowing how to put touch on the the throws.

For all the complaints on how Drew couldn’t get the ball 60+ yards down field, our replacement QB’s have been struggling to float screens and toss 10-15 yard touch passes in the flats. Look at the circus catch Kamara had to make for that 1st down. What about Jawan having to leave his feet in a wide open end zone?

Now please don’t take this wrong; Jameis did his thing, and I was and still am so proud of him. I have been behind him to take over the reigns since he signed, and am happy he’s gotten the nod. But, this game also made me appreciate that those “dink and dunks” that so many malign are harder to complete than folks recognize. There is an art to throwing them and if you don’t get it down right then disaster can quickly ensue.

But if dinking and dunking is all you can do.....God help you in the playoffs...because the defense will cheat. They will put everyone in the box...runs, screens, even dinks and dunks that used to work in regular season wont work anymore. You must have that over the top threat...and threat for QB to call his own number.

No. At the most, last season should have been his last. Three seasons ago Drew was in the running for MVP right up until the end of the season. Sports is truly brutal. You can have a 20 year historical career, play exceptionally for 18 of them, but only be remembered for the last two.

Even more, during the thick of the season people were screaming for Drew to rush back because most didn’t think Jameis was ready and Taysom looked horrid against the Eagles. Same thing with Teddy the previous season. While TB was a good fill in, none of us wanted to go into the playoffs with 2 Gloves leading the charge. Fast forward to today and now Drew was trash the past two seasons and dragged us down with his most efficient seasons in his career. Amazing.

Red Herring....nobody said that he said that. We (Saints fans) are saying that, not Drew....but he is aware that we were missing a huge tool from our toolbox, that allows you to win chips.

It's why Tom Brady is still deadly....he can crank out a 60 yarder at will...and dink/dunk.

He wasn’t ready. When Jameis went in for Drew during the 49er home game he almost threw an interception two plays into the series. Jameis needed every bit of that full year to set back and just learn this complex offense. Getting to watch Drew operate in his capacity as both QB1 and the face of THIS franchise was integral to Winston’s development.

I believe if you asked JW in private Winston would probably tell you it was best that things worked out this way. Jameis had the freedom to just be a sponge. And, now, after a year of learning, we get to see what he was able to soak up.

You are grossly exaggerating what is being said. Remove your emotions and look logically at the situation. Nobody is denying Brees’ greatness, however his inability to stretch the field allowed opposing defenses to cheat and smother the underneath game. It’s a credit to both Payton and Drew that we were as successful in the regular season as we were. Champions aren’t crowned in the regular season though, and when we played the best defenses, our inabilities became very obvious. No training camp was the reason Jameis wasn’t ready to go last season.

Of course he wasnt ready, Sean said Drew was retiring, and at the last minute Drew came back, so when Jameis came...he didnt walk into a situation where he had Sean from Feb 2020 to Sep (Reg Season). If he did have that....he would have been ready. As another QB that Sean would have attained or drafted in 2018 etc.

It's exactly what had MT angry, as he could only run routes Brees could throw. It severely limited us.

That’s not what you said. You said in your previous post that Drew states that sentiment.

Nonetheless, even though we know Drew lost his consistent long ball, I think people are ignoring his tone in that clip. It actually was a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Drew says, “APPARENTLY, this is what the Saints have been missing the past few years”. I believe he was being self deprecating by acknowledging that everyone is ragging on him about “noodle arm”. But, I don’t believe Drew agrees that he absolutely couldn’t throw long when needed.
