[Merged] Davenport has pectoral injury. (Update per Rapoport: suffered a strain, will miss time but expected back "sooner rather than later") (1 Viewer)

Lots of stuff to unpack in the tweet.

I assume it means that the initial thought is a calf strain and that he’s getting further tests to confirm.

but use of the word “was” is interesting and the phrasing of “that was before further testing” makes it feel like they discovered something else - but I’m not sure if that’s definitely what he’s saying.

I guess we’ll know soon enough.

Is he saying that “back sooner than later” was the original thought, but now, after further testing, it’s not? Or that “back sooner than later” was the original thought but we’ll have to wait for the test results to be sure?

Damn. He was a one man wrecking crew out there against the Packers. This is a bit loss. I am sorry to say it but he cannot be counted on. Regardless of talent, he is looking like a bust.

If he gets the pectoral healed up maybe they just need to think about using him more strategically in a rotation. Try fewer reps to cut down rate of injury.

Dunno. He clearly has the talent. Could be some kind of mismatch with his natural frame/body type and the bulk he has added. That doesn't work for some with more stress on joints, tendons, muscles etc.

Could be, too, that he needs to take a different approach to managing his body and health. Young athletes who can get by on natural physical ability don't always put in all the tedious work to promote and support injury prevention. Flexibility work, rest, and nutrition are often seen as the boring counterparts to physical training. (Speculation that might not apply to him.)

I doubt the initial test would have missed an achilles tear.

depends on what the "initial test" was. and an achilles rupture doesnt have to be a "full" tear.

And the way these guys tape up, you really wont know til shoe, sock, tape, more tape is removed.

Again, not saying it IS, but i sure do hate when i hear calf strain and then wellllll maybe not- there is no other muscle there- so its tendon or calf lol

Davenport might just be one of those guys who has a career riddled with nagging injuries.

But your point about taking a different approach to managing his body is spot-on.

If I recall, Isaac Bruce in his pre-Greatest Show on Turf days struggled with chronic hamstring issues and had to completely alter how he trained and cared for his legs - and was able to have a very long and successful HOF career.

Sometimes we have to take the info our bodies give us and do things differently.

Admittedly though, pec injuries are more flukey and his likely has more to do with him tossing 300+ lineman aside like rag dolls play after play.

He made a tackle early in the game where he quickly shed a blocker and stopped a RB in his tracks, flinging him to the ground like it was nothing. It was a physically spectacular play that highlights a very thin line between loving the intensity and his learning to not play recklessly.
