The Electric Vehicle (EV) discussion thread (Merged) (3 Viewers)

I saw that, but i think it’s a little misleading.. I believe when combined with an ICE, you can go around 300 miles.. I’m not sure how, or the logic , but that’s what ive been reading this afternoon on various sites.

I'm reading it is around 400 miles total but...
These types of systems are...well.. kind of outdated in my opinion. The chevy volt came out like a decade ago and had a similar system. I think the argument back then was most people on average drive less than 40 miles a day. I'm not a fan of this type of system because they can advertise a massive mpg-e but if you drive past 25 miles the mpg will be awful

Agreed, but most Americans (myself included) are still driving old school gasoline engines, so baby steps, i guess ? But, more importantly- Jeep already has some fully electric vehicles on the market (I believe the Rubicon maybe?) so IMO this hybrid model is probably not long for the world, my guess would be they’ll be moving to all electric with all , or most, of their vehicles very soon.

You should post some pics of the trail rigs you're rocking now.

Ask and you shall receive.

The Jeep Wrangler comes in PHEV like the Grand Cherokee. I believe I heard them say it's the exact same drive train. However Jeep did say there are planning for a BEV Wrangler in the next few years.

In general I have to agree. But in practice, a lot of people only commute a few miles every day. Also, with the Wrangler, you can run your Jeep on engine only, EV only, or a combo of the two. For me, I could drive out to a trail on ICE only then go to EV only for my off roading. That would let me enjoy nature without the drone of an engine. My current Rubicon has the turbo 4banger and it's LOUD. And I don't mean loud in a good way. It sounds like garbage. It's really the only thing I don't like about it.

I just watched this review on the Rivian. I'm seriously reconsidering the possibility of buying an F150 Lightning. The Rivian costs about the same as a Lightning with the Lariat trim. Frankly it comes with A TON more goodies than the Lightning does.

Gotcha, it must have been a concept i saw, not an actual production Jeep…. BUT according to this article, Jeep is coming out with an all-electric vehicle for the 2023 model year, meaning they’ll be available in about a year from today.. and it also says their entire lineup will be available fully electric not long after.

My main concern would be that , if there are mechanical issues at all, with a Ford you can get it serviced almost anywhere.. No doubt Rivian has addressed this, but what would be their solution ?

Oh, you're talking about the Magneto Concept from last spring's Easter Jeep Safari. Yea, that's strictly a concept. Not a very good one to be honest.

Rivian is going the Tesla route on service. They say they will have mobile servicing where a mechanic comes to you. For more severe issues, they are building out service centers across the country. Apparently a mobile service vehicle comes to you, drops off a loaner, and will take your vehicle to the service center.

The problem here is that those service centers haven't been built yet. Rivian says they're moving fast on that but I imagine it will take a year before they get them up in significant numbers. But, that being said, it's an BEV. There are a lot fewer moving parts to break. Most issues, IMO, are going to be software related and those would get fixed via an OTA update.

Externally it looks almost identical to Toyota's upcoming bZ4X EV

I guess these will be the first vehicles that came from the Toyota/ Subaru collaboration

I was doing some research on Rivian's service centers and found a thread on the Rivian Owners forum that is showing more concrete details on these service centers including building permits and zoning change requests with several cities. I'm happy to see that there is a service center under construction in Denver.

Here is the link to the forums if anyone is interested:

Looks like Ford is delaying the release of the hybrid drive train version of the Expedition. I don't think my wife will hold out two more years.

Yea, they instead started offering the Raptor's engine.

What about for the car?
