Drew Brees was non-committal when asked if Jameis can be the guy to lead the franchise (paraphrasing) (1 Viewer)

DM me if you still struggling with the thought

Not really, I made a statement that Brees does not speak like a politician, else he would have spoke in behalf of his majority black locker room.

You didnt have to reply. I could say stating he speaks like a ........derailed it.
So... It's someone else's fault...

Yeah God forbid he used free non-hate speech to say what he believes in. There was ZERO racism in what he said. Get over it and stop derailing threads with your garbage.
You're wrong. There's a reason Brees had to apologize to the team. There wasn't overt, intentional racism but there was certainly a tone-deafness based on race.

Who said it was a slap in the face? I thought it was surprising is all. When the question was being asked, I thought for sure he was going to say "absolutely, he CAN be the guy, it just takes time. Drew is very careful in what he says.
And if I remember, he also said (paraphrasing) that by nature, Jameis is a gunslinger and that his natural tendency is to go back to that. He's right. Maybe he "can", but "will he"? His DNA is gunslinging. When under pressure hIs natural reaction is to take a chance or force a play rather than throw it away. He'd rather gun it down field with that cannon of a right arm, than take the dump off. Drew is exactly right, and he should know. He operated at a HOF level running Sean's high percentage passing game for the last several years. He knows what Jameis is seeing and the temptation he is facing. Changing your instinct to play the high percentages isn't something that happens over night, or in a handful of starts in that system. Heck, it's so hard to do, its possible that he can't change it, which is a different discussion all together.

While you are quick to throw facepalms, I’ll answer your question. For your information, the way the OP started this thread makes it seem as though Drew was throwing shade at Jameis because he didn’t come out and endorse him.

When did I "throw a facepalm"? I am genuinely confused here. I am the OP btw. I did not insinuate or imply anything. I was just surprised that Drew responded the way he did. I don't know why he responded that way, or if it meant anything. Not sure why people are so sensitive these days.

It takes time... unless you are Taysom Hill.

sean peyton, taysom hill and drew brees are like family

listen to this soundbite.. its very telling( its timestamped), keep in mind this after winston threw 4 td passes, and had his foot stepped on by peat. Did sean peyton come out and defend winston like he did taysom hill when he threw his pick againist the giants after looking at the film

larry holder is critisizing jameis winston when winston is having his best season outside of completion percentage as a pro.. basically calling winston an unknown lol you cant make this stuff up

Did anyone see Sunday night football at halftime (I believe) Brees acknowledged that while the saints won that "something just isn't right with the offense". Either Tirico, or Dungy asked him if he thought that Jameis could be the guy and Drew's answer was something along the lines "it takes time". I thought it was pretty telling (IMO) that he gave that answer. If he really had confidence in Jameis he could have easily said something along the lines "Yes, absolutely he will be the guy, it just will take him some time to get there"

I know I am paraphrasing the conversation, did anyone else see it and have the same takeaway? Can someone find the clip? I looked and cannot

I did see it. I also thought he should be one to know this isn't an offense that you can have master control by your first week running it.

I've been saying for awhile it's going to take time. It's a work in progress. It's pretty clear as of now Winston is very comfortable letting it fly deep.

Brees noted the intermediate passing is what hasn't been there. That's been the area I've seen Winston hesitate on the most. Most of our offense is based on timing. Trust in the receiver is going to be in the spot Winston is throwing to.

Then add Thomas and Smith and that process could take longer cause Winston has yet to build any relationship with those two in the passing game.
Do I have to state the obvious? Drew was a once in generation QB. Jameis has been in the league for 5 years. He is what he is. That is a QB with a big arm and very athletic but inconsistent. No amount of Sean Payton coaching or roster talent is gonna change that. We all know Jameis wants to emulate Drew. That is a lofty goal for any QB but who can do that? It's just always been unrealistic to elevate Jameis to that level and it's unfair. I mean he's doing the best he can but this is the NFL.
