The Electric Vehicle (EV) discussion thread (Merged) (4 Viewers)

Yeah, I'd expect the northeast to be ahead of the curve when it comes to charging stations. There are a lot of EVs on the road. Quite a few where I live have Teslas and other brand EVs. The new Wawa down the street has a bunch of charging stations. The Walgeens here usually has a couple of them. The mall has a bunch of them.

So, it's not hard to find them here. That said, I'm not sure what it's like in remote, rural areas of Virginia, but I imagine pretty sparse there.
Even in rural areas here, there are generally a couple of superchargers within easy reach. We've noticed that, in Western areas of the state, some of the municipalities have installed charging stations. They may not be 48Kw + stations but are good enough to get you where you need to go.

The new 2022 BMW i4 is coming out soon and I'm pretty disappointed. It has a 245 mile range, no frunk, and those terrible blue accents car companies keep putting on hybrid and electric vehicles. I was really looking forward to this car, but I can't see why one would get it over a dual motor Model 3. I HATE the blue accents.

What’s the pricing look like?

I like the blue,,,, a lot.
It's got about 56 more HP than the Model 3, better interior, probably a lot better panel gaps. There is a lower end version that has just short of 300miles.

It has DC fast charging but InsideEV shows that it drops off it's charging rate really quickly after hitting just 25% capacity. Also, despite having more HP, it's 0-60 time is slower than a Model 3 performance (3.7sec vs 3.1sec). That's probably because the BMW is 1000lbs heavier.

$65900 + $995 destination. But I think BMW still qualifies for the $7500 tax credit.
The Model 3 performance starts at $58990.

You like blue paint or all the blue accents to let us know it's an EV or both? I like the paint color just fine and even the blue brake calipers.

I like it all. Blue is, by far, my favorite color.

Both of those are seriously fast times. Wouldn't similar size and style ICE vehicles struggle to match that at a higher cost while requiring more maintenance?

One would expect that to be the case. Having read BMW's press release on all its new technology in this vehicle, I'd be terrified to own it out of warranty.

You're talkin' about some seriously expensive ICE powered cars to get those kinds of times. These are all the cars that get 0-60 at 3sec.

Ariel Atom 500 (V8)2010ICE3.0 s[58]252
Chevrolet Corvette Z062015ICE3.0 s[59]N/A2
Mercedes-AMG GT S2016ICE3.0 s[60]N/A2
McLaren 675LT2016ICE3.0 s[61]1000[xvii]2
Ford GT2017ICE3.0 s[62]N/A2
Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+[vii]2018ICE3.0 s[63]N/A5Front-engine
Tesla Model 3 Performance[xviii]2019Electric3.0 s[64]N/A5All-electric, dual-motor
Honda NSX[ix]2020Hybrid3.0 s[65]N/A2Hybrid-electric, tri-motor

The fasted 0-60 car is the Tesla Model S plaid at 1.98 seconds. The next fastest is the Porsche 318 spider at 2.1 seconds. The 318's starting price is just under $1million..

Yeah, that blue trim line down the side would be a turnoff for me as well.

hmm I'd take blue accents over the hideous front grill

Yup.. from a design perspective it's the worst point of the car.

Toyota said it would share details on the project, including where it plans to build the plant, in the future. However, the facility will initially focus on making batteries for hybrid electric vehicles, with production expected to start sometime in 2025. Toyota expects to create about 1,750 jobs through the project

And of the ICE models, the Corvette is the only one you can take to the grocery store without fear of a door ding costing you 10K. The Ariel Atom has no doors :hihi:

Atom vs Corvette Z06. the 'Vette ran out of gas.
