Interesting discussion here b/w Florio and Charean Williams regarding the Gruden situation. They raise some excellent points and it's worth the 20 minutes.

The biggest takeaway for me is that the NFL leaked the emails to the NYT and that they are using this as a distraction to keep people from asking about the situation in Washington.

Florio definitely has some great points in there. The truth is somewhere in the middle and you can’t be selective in what emails get released.

Side note: that woman’s voice is like a bad car horn. Not a voice for radio.

Come on man, you are smarter than that to really believe this. All the rap groups coming up in the beginning spoke about real life in their lyrics. Public Enemy, Tupac, Notorious Big, Dr. Dre, Snoop. All of a sudden Eminem comes along, and we are supposed to take his lyrics as "art". That's the biggest cop out I've ever heard. He had no issues including a homophobic slur in a diss track about another rapper, which seemed to align with his personal beliefs about the person. He did end up apologizing and regretting his words, but in the end, he still said what he said. And oh by the way, the lbgtq community has had a major issue with Eminem for a long time. But for some reason he continues to get this pass because it's his "persona" that these lyrics are tied to. Just from the optics alone, the NFL having someone as controversial as Eminem performing during their premier event is a bit odd.

Also, let us not sit here and pretend other forms of art have not been eliminated due to its content. Cartoons, caricatures, comedians, etc... have all been removed if the content was deemed inappropriate for current times. I just can't figure out why Eminem has been so protected. Maybe it was his disdain for the orange man that bought him tolerance amongst the masses
What has been removed? If it’s only a certain number of episodes of a TV show, it’s nothing new. Back in the 60s when Looney Tunes were starting to get syndicated onto network TV, certain cartoons were removed for racial insensitivity.
Even during in my childhood in the 90s/early 00s, CN and Nickelodeon would edit shows due to changes in culture.
And I think it’s important to note that the halftime show is gonna be the clean version of the songs.

You mean as a sign of his stupidity?

So even if the wife was satisfied with the contents (or lack thereof) in the emails.........he's now violated company policy in a rather egregious way by not just giving someone access to his company emails, but by giving a NON-EMPLOYEE access to his company emails.

Beyond being highly unethical, above is illegal, the wife would also very likely be prosecuted...

Not on a company computer/email account.

I've worked tech support since 1998 and the (thankfully) few times I've found nudes on someone's company PC, they've been walked out before COB that day. Add the racist and homophobic comments and it's a wonder they allowed him to resign. In every company I've worked for, his passwords would've been changed, his PC confiscated and turned over to forensics within hours. He'd have gone out for a smoke and come back to an office full of boxes.

Worked for DOL IT for 25 years. 5 years as a contractor in security and admin and yep, though it is fairly rare, one can be prosecuted if the circumstances warrant it.....I always giggle a bit when some folks think it is some kind of invasion of privacy or "leak".....

I don't agree with Gruden's language and actions, I think most of us on the board hate Goodell. I agree that the stuff he said and did is pretty freaking bad, with that being said, here is my issue with all of this. Former players have come out and basically called Gruden a scumbag and how there has been a culture of this stuff going on inside the NFL's most elite circles, exec's, coaches, possibly even owners for a very long time. Will the NFL do a major investigation into ALL of the teams correspondences and investigate how much of a culture this really is? Am I to believe Gruden is the only high profile person within league circles that has used this sorta language to describe people associated with the league?

The NFL has thrown slogans onto endzones, put stickers on back of helmets that say, "End Racism, end hate" then you better do your due diligence and find out how prevalent this stuff is and root it all out, air ALL that drama and cut out the cancer if it truly exists. I can't help think that this was a blindside to Gruden to distract from the very bad stuff the Washington football team exec's were engaging in. This reeks of, "well, look over there and not here!" to me.

If this stuff doesn't spark a full investigation into how deep this stuff really goes across the league then its a critical failure on their part. I suspect if they do actually care about their shield, they will get to the bottom of it and probably uncover some really toxic stuff that has been permeating for years.
An organization where majority of leadership & executives are a bunch of old, rich, white millionaires & billionaires and everyone (mostly white American males) is shocked that racist, sexist, homophobic rhetoric is rife within said organization?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Why do I get the feeling that we are about to witness something that will make us think Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake should be a syndicated kids TV show.

To be honest, the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson outcry was overblown.
Looking back, it hilarious how many people were upset over what was basically one tenth of a frame on screen.

I thought that it was shockingly hilarous that they did that then had the balls to say that it was a wardrobe malfunction. I also don't think that it belonged on that venue during primetime during one of the most viewed tv shows broadcast around the world.

I had no problem with the XXXVIII Halftime Show. All the songs were the clean version and time has shown the reaction to the wardrobe malfunction was overblown.

Although Synder is part of this, I think it's bigger them because the emails went to other people who clearly had no problem with the tone of the conversation. It's obvious they are shielding WFT because they were instructed to put together a verbal report with no written record(who does that in an official investigation).

Okay, here's what you do step by step:

First: Be a good person. Don't have those thoughts

The end
At the risk of being misunderstood and/or being perceived as nitpicking -- and speaking only for myself -- it's a bit more involved than that for me.

Sometimes thoughts, or maybe more accurately, visceral reactions, come immediately and completely unbidden. Granted, after much personal contemplation, effort and time, such reactions are honestly limited to a matter of milliseconds in my mind. But I think it's important to be honest with myself that they remain there. The childhood poison is always there, ready to bleed out if I don't thoughtfully keep it in check -- usually while watching something like the local news.

Just as one brutally honest example, there's a flash of caution in my mind every time I do "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" with my grandkids to be sure I don't accidentally say the wrong thing. Does it disgust me? Absolutely. But I think it would be harmful for me to deny that that lizard brain wiring is still there, and enough decades have passed with me being on the "right" side of things to know that it's not going away completely.

Agreed. Is this just a matter of billionaires protecting a billionaire by sacrificing a millionaire?

Exactly. We're talking about the NFL here. They are known for their investigations backed by thousands of pages of documents. How many documents did they have for Bountygate? Like 20k? It was some absurd number like that. Way over the top.

But now all of the sudden they wanted to take over an investigation but they can't be bothered with a written report? Sounds odd. If you're doing an investigation it seems like you would want it thoroughly documented.

It certainly looks like that at face value Hopefully the backlash won’t die down though. If football doesn’t get its shirt together, it really is gonna become impossible to be a fan.
