Are we talking about how an in his prime quarterback is putting up similar numbers to a guy in the twilight of his career? I don’t know what we are doing here other than enjoying numbers.

I am glad Winston is doing well (because that means the Saints are doing well), but let the man stand on his own merits.

It’s saying no one would question Drew’s stats or his performance, also stating Jameis is doing a damn good job just let him play and let’s all support him!!!!

Ok...Drew Brees was a top 3 QB statistically rating-wise LAST YEAR...argument over.

It was not his "performance" more so than his OBVIOUS declining skills and how those limitations would rear its ugly head in the playoffs like in previous years.

I don’t think anyone questioned Brees stats in his final year, 15 years on the team and there really weren’t many questions as to what you were getting out of him.

Was he (I honestly can’t remember)? Reminds me of CP3 putting up better numbers than Steve Nash (during Nash’s two MVP seasons), yet CP3 lost out on the MVP to Kobe because the Lakers had a better record than the Hornets by 1 game.

Don't do it, they will say you hate him, only say good things. Do not give a balanced view of him.

People keep saying this but I must be ignoring the members doing that. I don't see it. I see a lot of very balance reviews. The gist of what I am seeing is that he has done pretty well but needs to improve in a few key areas to really successfully run SP offense. Is that not balanced??

Personally, I don't think comparing him with Brees really makes a lot of sense. It doesn't really help the situation because some people misconstrue those comparisons as "everyone is saying he is as good as Brees!!!!"

I think his injuries during the season aren't being considered here. Could his age have been a factor in those injuries? Maybe, maybe not.

I want to say this. I'm 40. I'm in decent shape mostly from cycling these days. I was pretty reckless in my youth and can still be. Skateboarding injuries, hockey injuries, broken kneecap and fractured hip in a pretty gnarly motorcycle wreck. I might not have NFL wear and tear but I got enough. I'm also not in NFL shape.

Point I'm getting at is though I've always thrown a good football I can still throw 40 yards on a dime and get it out 30 yards quickly and accurately.

I think that a lot of the talk about Brees diminished abilities are overstated and don't take in variables like injuries.

I also feel like alot of it is made by guys that aren't or weren't ever athletic and have an innacurate perception on what it takes to throw a football.

Meily, I enjoy your posts I'm not directing this at you. Just my final thoughts on the Brees can't throw a football 10 yards talk.

Yds per attempt is not a very telling stat. How you get to those averages can be extremely different and have a huge range in effectiveness. I’m not saying that I don’t like where Winston is at however. I’m preaching process and he is right where you want him to be at this point in the process.

Despite declining arm strength, Brees was still one of the top QBs in the league last year and the last several years.

This is a fair point but the discussion is about the stats, not about playoff performances.
