NFL ÑFL? Really, NFL? (1 Viewer)

Not to speak for OP - you will soon learn that OP is capable of speaking for himself (some would argue over speaking for himself😏)

Please prepare yourself for a multi paragraph explanation about Spanish diacritical marks from OP)
You know me soooo well ❤️
I'm wearing spandx :hihi:

This should have been the post to prompt the "Don't make a post that will lead to political arguments" response.
There is nothing even remotely controversial or political about it. We live in a capitalist society and big companies will always look out for the bottom line and try to increase profits. Theres no arguments to be made, it's just what makes capitalism capitalism.

The NFL is a company, they want to make more profit and Roger Goodell has a responsibility to make the owners as much money as possible.

I mean.. There is an awful lot of focus on penetration and tight ends.. :hihi:

I wasn't going to do this... but you've forced my hand

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this, but culture encompasses a lot of things including primary language. The OP is clearly hostile towards the idea of "pandering to Spanish speakers." It's not denigrating to English speakers for the NFL give a little shout out to other folks who speak a different language. Growing the game beyond our borders is a good thing. Acknowledging different aspects of fandom is also a good thing.
Edit: Responding to guidomerkinsrules, can't get this quoting to work properly on my phone lol.
I think you are missing the point. It isn't an issue that the NFL is trying to be inclusive of another culture but the fact that they are coming off ignorant in how they choose to do so. Putting an accent where they did makes no sense in any language. I think the point is if you are going to do it, do it in a way that makes sense.

We could also ask if they really care about including other cultures, or do they just want to virtual signal it so white people in academics won't attack them?

I loved it. What's wrong with sharing the awesomeness of the NFL with other cultures? Opening up and learning and having shared experiences. It can bring people together and help make the world a better place. I have zero problems with it at all.

They don't care about other cultures nearly so much as they care about their $$$. Every action they make proves this more true to some degree.

Forgive me for taking offense myself if the grammar was the actual problem. I just hear very similar rhetoric from people around here, only they're not talking about diacritic use.
Edit: by around here I mean my neck of Mississippi, not Saintsreport
it's cool - it was a misunderstanding that you cleared up
i agree with you overall sentiment

I like the inclusion. What I don't like is the logistics of trying to put the games all over the globe. If it were done in a way that doesn't put any teams at a disadvantage, then I am all for it. But they have failed to do that thus far.

All the cynics in here musing over the true intentions of the NFL are missing the positive effects of children and young people seeing these corporations at least TRYING to be diverse. Representation really does matter. All grammar issues aside of course lol. It may ring hollow to grizzled folks beaten down by "the real world," but kids don't think that way. I get that the NFL wants to stick their hooks into a growing, young demographic for financial reasons, but a kid just sees "We see you, you're a valid part of this community"

What @guidomerkinsrules means is that I was born in México. And no, I am not offended, but making the N in NFL an Ñ makes absolutely no sense... I guess to make it the Ñoño Football League? :hihi: ( @guillermo may get that one).
My question is - is the tilde in the right spot? I've only ever seen it in the middle of a word. If it is, how do you phonetically pronounce it ? En-yef-el?

It's all I can think about now lol.

I hope they are successful in building the next audience from all cultures because I fear for the future of the league. You are right though that what we really want is more transparency and equality within the league itself not just its fan base. They hide behind player safety and we have been the victim of that. But the track record on choices made all reflect protecting the image of a league worried about player safety and the image of worrying about parity rather than those objects themselves. Admittedly, I want the league to survive for selfish reasons but it’s gonna have to clean up a lot of shirt to do so.
