The Science of Fasting (16 Viewers)

I am doing a fast right now....day 3 at the moment.

It will end on Saturday or Sunday depending on when we go out for my brother's bday and of course Thanksgiving is next week. I have never done a fast for more than 4 or 5 days....usually I do them when life is kicking my arse more than usual because I find it helps to center me and give me my focus back. Thinking about doing a 2 week fast for the first half of December

Good lord, I have never even approached 4 or 5 days. Doing IF/OMAD, I don't think you get the whole head clearing thing.

I do have black coffee and unsweetened tea (with a couple drops of mint extract)

Additionally I have a scoop of Vibrant Greens every day for vitamins and minerals

Mint extract. Excellent idea. I have just glommed on to the idea of drinking peppermint tea to help cure my sweet tooth without having to actually add stevia but I never thought of adding extract to it. I did discover that adding almond extract to mascarpone cheese drastically upped my enjoyment levels. I dunno why I never thought of that before since I actually already have a lot of these extracts.

What does the almond extract do with the macaroons cheese?
 
I didn't make it and did even worse today. Dunno if it was a psychological psyche out thing or an easing into it reminder. But I went ahead and ate something just to listen to my body telling me I'm hungry rather than trying to tough it out. I think that's a worse psychological thing to do because in the long run, willpower will only get you so far. In the past, I've never gotten much past 48 hours anyway.

I'm gonna try for tomorrow and Saturday to be good days because I already know Sunday (game) and Tuesday (my birthday and I'm having cake!) will be "bad" days.

I did a 6 day fast once (black coffee, tea, and some supplements). I think I never felt better. It's challenging but worth it. As long as you get some basic nutrients you can go a while without food. Maybe not recommended if you're really lean but the body will just consume its own fat if you're not feeding it. That's the idea of keto anyhow.

Another thing that helps me is that sometimes you just want FLAVOR and I have a couple hot sauces (mango, Blueberry, and pineapple habenero) that taste amazing. The heat and burst of flavor really helps any cravings

But that's not fasting then

Done right and smart, it does clear your chakras.

I seriously doubt 3 drops of hot sauce every now and then are going to derail the benefits of fasting. You could make a bigger case for the scoop of Vibrant Greens...since it's freeze dried super greens in a powdered form it is technically food and has a few calories. However, with all the medications I am on I think it's safer for me to make sure I am not nutritionally deficient

I almost died from an interaction between my pain meds and blood pressure meds once as it is

I think the idea is great. I'm just assuming it's a number of calories due to the sugar so it wouldn't be for everybody. I don't know what Vibrant Greens are but I assume it's like a protein powder. That breaks a fast, too. But I get you're doing what you're doing and not following "rules".

Had the name wrong. It's got 40 calories in one scoop. Like I said...its just freeze dried "super" greens. And the hot sauce shows no calories for a full teaspoon
