Thanksgiving Eve - total money night to party, great times. Lots of reasons why it makes sense, and people do it different ways at different ages. But I'm curious how widespread it is. Have some people never considered Thanksgiving Eve a party night? Or is it totally a thing everywhere?

Pretty much never.

The main reason is that I haven't made it a thing to go back and visit the parents for thanksgiving, after college. I think even in college, I may have gone out, but not really, because I didn't want to be sick for Turkey day.

As an adult, I usually did thanksgiving at my cousin's place in New Orleans, and he's a priest, so we'd save the drinking for the meal. haha.

When I moved to Florida, I was either on my own, or drove up to my Uncles place. So, pretty much not a big drinker the night before.

But, of course, here I am at home, drinking Scotch, with my Mother in Law here, and college kid back home... Probably as drunk as I've ever gotten the night before (again, which is a low bar). But, not partying, since I'm like home.

Aren’t most people cooking? What is even wrong with you Chuck. Most people are preparing to celebrate the Pilgrims making peace with the Turkeys and the Indians sharing their string bean casserole recipe.

There are different ways to do it, I suppose - and not all necessarily involve drinking. Like I dunno, maybe some people get together and have some intense annual trivial pursuit games with family or friends.

But I can see what you mean by not having the right circumstances for it to happen.

So, my family is weird. Well, my dad is weird. Very German American. Very, quiet, somber, simple... no big gathering.

My mom is one of 14 kids. But, when we'd visit her family in Puerto Rico, it's either christmas time or summer. Big family gatherings, parties, all that.

My dad's side, only recently started getting together every summer. It's kinda sad, I know all of that side of my family, but not really. We'd rarely hang. Our parents were so weird.

This might be the Scotch talking, but as I think about it now, it's kind of sad. I don't know my aunt and uncle on my dad's side as well as I should. And I really don't know my aunts and uncles on my mom's side as well as I should, because I don't speak spanish well. However, a few of them I know pretty well, due to them busting their butts speaking English to me.

To go Freud on this, I'm an only child, who was also unable to fully connect with his wider family. Probably explains why I'm cool just doing my own thing.

That being said, I'd totally understand people hitting bars hard the night before, or bigger family events. Depends on the family. I know when I moved to Louisiana after college, I was so in love with the intense family gatherings, traditions, meals, fun that people had.

Since when have the words "rage" and "party" ever equaled trivial pursuit?

It's a sound idea. I totally get it. But like moving the Super Bowl to Saturday, there's reasons, perhaps not the most logical reasons, why it isn't done. If we're home, we are hosting. As a result, we're prepping. If we are on vacation, my preference these years, we have the kids, nature's cocktail blockers.

You've never played me...

j.k.

My family won't play me in Trivial Pursuit anymore. The boy thought he could take on the old bull, but I smoked him, and he got mad. haha. Seriously, I love that.

I went all Conan on him.
