So tell me again why Ian Book can’t start or play? (2 Viewers)

Bill Parcels has a criteria for a franchise QB that includes 7 attributes. Trevor Lawrence had 6 out of 7. Ian Book had 7 out of 7. I believe CSP know what we got.
I don't think Parcels is the best reference for QBs, yes he was a great coach but he was mainly a defensive guy. However, you can mention that Payton was his OC ad oversaw Romo's development.

Chase Daniels is still cashing checks in the NFL after working with Sean. Book is light years better than Chase was when he got here. Sean didn't bring Book h

Valid point but 4th round picks are not necessary viewed as critical to the team.

I know you are right. But, then why did Sean keep at a premium, 4QBs on the active roster? Former GM of GB Ron Wolf (Farve and Rodgers) loves this guy and he knows a bit about QBs

I don't it's a question of whether or not Sean likes him but whether he planned on playing him this year. You heard that discussion with 1st round picks (Mac, Justin, Trey, etc.) but I don't think 4th round guys are viewed with the same sense of urgency. Dak played because he was the only backup to Romo. If Book was the backup, maybe I could see it but he's the 4th QB for a reason.

Didn't Heineke win last night? Didn't PJ Washington start games? Why not try something. Make it interesting so we can get draft capital lol
Heinke was with Ron in Carolina, he's not a rook and he balled out in the playoff game last year even though they lost.

Us fans haven't really seen what they're working with in him. Maybe it's promising, maybe not. But with the way this offense is... I wouldn't want to destroy his young career before it even has a chance to take off.
Yeah it would be one thing if the guy had a full compliment of receivers and an O line that was playing well. Maybe then you throw him out there and see what you have. Get him some experience at least. But if you put him out there now running for his life and nowhere to throw the ball, what good is that going to do?

Payton said they are impressed with what they see from Book at this point, but he is not ready. It's really not hard to understand. As to your statement, "nothing to lose", that is clearly not the case. Regardless of how bleak things may look, we are not eliminated yet, so there is no reason to do something illogical just because we are going through a rough patch. When we are officially eliminated, Payton may decide to give him some playing time if he thinks it would be beneficial, because at that point, you'd have nothing to lose. Right now, Taysom gives us a better chance.

I don't think that you put Book into the game knowing that he will fail. At this point, I'm pretty much certain he would fail. The offense is in shambles. Even a prime Drew Brees would struggle to manufacture offense right now...there is no way that you can expect much from a 4th round rookie QB who Payton won't play behind Trevor frickin Siemian.
Tom Brady was slow and had a weak arm and Drew Brees was too short for the NFL. We need to see what Book can do.

QB's have to be the most mentally tough player on the team. I believe the "throw Book to the sharks" narrative is misguided. If he was that sensitive to failure, he wouldn't have made the 53, and would never be good anyway. I wouldn't be a bit surprised for Payton to give him snaps if he's on the 47. Whatever the reason that Payton's not starting him is knowledge or mechanics, not a tender psyche.

I don't think Sean will play Book this season.

Maybe I missed it somewhere on another thread but why can’t Ian Book okay instead of Trevor or an injured Hill? I mean is he injured too? It’s not like he would be the first rookie QB to play in a regular season game. I mean I just don’t get it sometimes with this coaching staff. You have nothing to lose at this point.
I have to agree with you. To me it’s like this. If you knew nothing about cars and had 3 salesmen pushing you hard. One was offering you a Mustang GT that was really nice and looked good. The next was trying to sell you a Corvette Z06 and it was really sweet. Then the last guy was offering you a Dodge Hellcat. They all look nice and the money was no object to you but you want to test drive all 3. We saw Jameis and he looked a little better than average. Trevor was like driving by a seafood processing plant late on a July night. You already know what you have in Taysom and he also looks like a little better than average. Bring Book in and see how he performs under fire. If he does great that frees us up from using a draft pick on a QB.
