Another school shooting in MI... (1 Viewer)

I wanted to make a similar comment. I had a hunter’s education course before I was allowed to touch any of our firearms (this was back in 99-01ish), and I feel like it gave me a similar level of respect that you seem to have. We’d all benefit from your level of responsibility from gun owners.

The father very well could have shown his son where the gun and key were (assuming it was locked up) and trained him how to use the gun in case he ever really needed to use it against an intruder or for some other seriously defensive reason. I don’t think it’s incredibly out of the ordinary to teach a 15 year old about guns and gun safety.

I’m doubting the parents anticipated their son was one of the very few crazies who wanted to shoot up his classmates. If they did know he was mental, or even if they should have known, then they certainly should not have a gun where he can get it and they bear some responsibility.

Supposedly there were several troubling signs leading up to the incident

As I said above, I don’t give a fork if you’ve taught a 15 year old gun handling & safety since they were old enough to hold a gun. Their brains are still underdeveloped and they make stupid decisions - even the best of kids. If you are a parent and have guns, your child should 110% not be able to access them when you are not around to supervise.

Good...

Good...
Yeah the details the prosecutor presented towards the negligence by the parents is pretty sickening.

When a teacher reported that Ethan Crumbley was found searching for ammunition on his phone during class on Nov. 21, his mother was contacted by school officials.

"Jennifer Crumbley was contacted via voicemail by school personnel regarding the son's inappropriate internet search. School personnel indicate they followed that voicemail up with an e-mail but received no response from either parent," McDonald said.

"Thereafter, Jennifer Crumbley exchanged text messages about the incident with her son on that day, stating, 'lol, I'm not mad at you, you have to learn not to get caught,'" McDonald added.

McDonald said James and Jennifer Crumbley met with school officials a few hours before the shooting about concerning behavior. The prosecutor said the parents left the school without their son and he returned to the classroom.

When the news of the active shooter had been made public, Jennifer Crumbley texted her son, "Ethan, don't do it," McDonald said.

Additionally, "James Crumbley called 911 reporting that a gun was missing from his house, and he believed his son may be the shooter," McDonald said.

McDonald said the investigation found that the gun purchased by the shooter's father was stored in an unlocked drawer in James and Jennifer's bedroom.

Also, the school has some culpability in this as well. Him being allowed to return to class after that meeting...that just can't happen.

Hours before the shooting, Crumbley was found with a disturbing drawing that included a drawing of a firearm and someone who appeared to be bleeding, McDonald said. When the drawing was brought to a school counselor with Crumbley and his parents present, Crumbley had altered it, McDonald said. A counselor told the parents their son needed to get counseling, but he was able to return to class. His parents did not ask him about the firearm at that time, McDonald said.

I am disgusted. His mom saying “lol I’m not mad at you, you just have to not get caught”. Perfect example of why people need to stop thinking their ‘little angels’ would never.

Why is your 15 year old son shopping for ammo in the first place - at school or not?? A responsible gun owner would have reprimanded their child for engaging in adult behavior and reminded them that guns are for the adults and he needs not concern himself with shopping for ammo.

I hope the parents rot in prison, crying daily, losing their sanity over the fact that because of them, 4 innocent children are dead and their son is a murderer.

I want to fork them up myself.

Is there a problem with me if I struggle to even care about this shooting? Americans kill middle eastern families with drones all the time, and no one really cares. You have very deliberate killing on the one hand and just random murder to compare it to, and people just get upset about this teen committing murder, but there’s no real anger about deliberate US killing in the Middle East. It’s kinda crazy to the point that these US teens killing classmates is pretty much meaningless to me.

Can you be mad about more than one thing at a time?
