Gotta Re-sign Jameis at This Point (1 Viewer)

21 pages and I never commented? Gotta change that right now!

I really like both QBs, Jameis and Taysom. I think Jameis is the better choice for a few reasons:

He is younger and Taysom has an injury history; Taysom's style indicates more injuries will come
Taysom can still fill a valuable role while Jameis is QB1; not true the other way around
Jameis has elite throwing mechanics, arm strength and great accuracy; Taysom's accuracy and arm strength are hit/miss.
We can be more multiple in our offensive strategy with Jameis; hard to come from behind with Taysom under center.

Thicker skin would help. Not everyone is going to agree with everyone's take on things especially when so many other people can see what the poster is obviously not seeing. If someone decides to be offended because someone didn't agree with them, that's their problem.
No there isn't. It's insulting either way.
Take it to PM or let it go. Let's move on.

Thanks.

He played it perfect playing under franchise tags in Washington then hitting the open market. That's why I say a QB like Jameis should want to sign a 1-year deal, stay healthy, put up big numbers, then hit the open market in 2023.
i think Winston really wants to be here, im sure they will give him a fair deal. and he'd take it

Down vote away, but Taysom’s injury problems are not going away at his age. And when he’s healthy, he’s somewhere between bad and average depending on how good of a team we are playing.

Ian Book didn’t get a fair tryout but he didn’t flash at all.

Even if we draft someone, we need a week 1 starter that can deliver. Jameis is the guy until we have an heir. Do what it takes.
Not sure how Taysom plays into this because he's not a starting QB. Winston is the best available free agent QB. Unless the Saints make a trade, he's definitely back next year. Even then, I'm not so sure that the Saints don't try and trade for a QB.

This is surprisingly true (and not just if you are a Saints fan). Unless you get a quarterback via trade, or someone is cut, Winston is about as good as it gets.

Good QBs just don't hit free agency anymore. They get extended early or they get franchised. Brady was a special case. Unless you sit through the entire franchise process like Cousins did, it just doesn't happen. I think Dak was going to do it but the Cowboys caved.

I'm good with Taysom or Winston being the starter going forward. We extended Taysom, so 100% he's going to be here. Winston on the other hand will almost definitely be out of our price range. So chances are, Taysom will compete with "somebody" for the starting job next year. Only one on this list that might beat him would be Teddy, and that's not a certainty at all. I just wish that Ian Book would've got a better shake in his one start. That game was some of the worst OL play I've ever seen in professional football. From what I did see, I don't think he's anywhere near ready to beat out Taysom for the starting job, but I would have liked to seen more. At least enough to make me feel like he could be the legit 2022 back-up. So Taysom/Siemian or Taysom/Bridgewater might just be what we end up rolling with next year.

I also feel like the QB issue will resolve itself when we resign Winston, and he is the current "plan" probably with Bortles and Book as back ups and Hill back to his Joker role.

I hope not. I think JW will stick around and excel.

I don't think so. I think folks are underestimating how much he wants to be here....I think they will work something out to get him on a 2-3 year deal...we will see...
I think that'll depend on what all other options he has available to him. Like I said, I don't have a side in the Winston/Hill debate, I like them both. But I think That Jameis is better than a lot of teams' starters this past season, although some are rookies teams seem to believe in, there are other teams throwing darts.

Panthers (not a Darnold believer)
Dolphins (new regime could want a new QB)
Broncos (Lock/Teddy and all those offensive weapons going to waste)
Steelers (Ben's gone)
Bears (new regime could want a new QB)
Colts (could be looking to move on from Wentz)
Texans (something's gotta give in H-Town sooner or later)
Jaguars (blue-chip rookie, but new coaching regime)
Falcons (if Matty Ice hangs it up... haven't heard anything about it, but he's gotta be getting close)
Browns (depending on how they really feel about Baker)
Lions (unless they really think Goff is their guy)

Nothing's certain of course, but I'd be surprised if several of these teams didn't show interest in him as an out-right starter for out-right starter pay.

Maybe...could be....I'm hoping they have already worked something out to keep him here, that wouldn't surprise me....we will find out soon enough...Cheers

It's certainly possible that Winston gets a big offer and leaves, but I think he wants to be here and I think there are less good options for him than you list:

Carolina - Winston is better, but that's a dumpster fire and Rhule is likely to get fired after next year. Not sure Winston would want to go there.

Dolphins - Flores got fired because he was not on board with sticking with Tua as the franchise QB. With Flores fired, Tua is there to stay for at least this year.

Bears - Fields was a rookie and played well. I don't see them giving up on him after a year when he has showed promise.

Jaguars - See the Bears only it's even less likely since Lawrence was the #1 pick but he did not play as well as Fields.

Falcons - Apparently their coach asked for a commitment that Ryan was staying before signing on. Crazy I know, but apparently he likes Ryan.

So, I think the real options are Saints, Steelers, and Colts. But, Washington, Broncos, Texans, Browns, and Lions are possible depending on if they decide to move on from their young QBs. I don't think they all will but one or two might. But, outside of the Browns, they don't look like very tempting destinations for Winston.

And frankly, given the options and his experience in our offense, I think the Saints are the most attractive option for Winston as long as the money is at least close and I think it will be.

Don't forget the O line. I guarantee if you told a QB that he could play for whoever they want the first thing (taking $$ out of the equation) they're going look at is the line. If they're smart.

And ours is an All-Star line up.
