If the Bears hire Jeff Ireland as their new GM...should the Saints consider Mike Mayock for Director of Scouting? (3 Viewers)

I can't really judge his level of competency, but I do get the sense that he'd probably be more successful without Gruden than with him. Gruden seemed like a handful to work with, and with the 10 year contract he was on...I could see it being a situation of trying to bend to his will rather than getting to choose the best players.

NO. He's got Gruden filth on em. I'd take whoever we can snatch out of Pittsburgh or Arizona
He may have hired Gruden...but what does he have to do with the current Gruden situation?!

Gruden was fired for emails that he sent over a decade ago.
FWIW I don't condone what Gruden said.

He signed Gruden to that 10 year deal right? That's the decision making skills demonstrated. 10 years ago is still relevant to me if I were searching for a coach I would definitely due diligence for character.

I've heard from several places that the Raiders success in drafting good players in the later rounds was due to Mayock while Gruden would always pull a power play to draft players that he would fall in love with in the first round.

I mean, I don't know how anyone is supposed to find out what someone said in their private emails 10 years ago. Anyway, I don't have a real opinion on Mayock, but a decision on if you bring him in to be head of college scouting should be based on what he did picking college talent, not what he did deciding on who the head coach would be.

Ireland also made a lot of bad decisions when he was GM for the Dolphins..but he excelled at being Director of Scouting.

And he asked a prospective draft pick if his mother was a whore.

Maybe he's learned some interviewing skills since
