If the Bears hire Jeff Ireland as their new GM...should the Saints consider Mike Mayock for Director of Scouting? (1 Viewer)

Just hire back the Bears Fired GM for the same position vacated by Ireland.

That very well could happen because Ryan Pace used to work for the Saints but what did he do good for the bears? He traded the farm to take Trubisky over Watson and Mahomes.

He may not be a good GM but I would take 2 of the players he drafted. Max Crosby and Hunter Renfrow. Would take them in a heartbeat.

Mayock? Good grief, no. Let him go back to TV. He was obviously out of his element in an NFL front office.

I mean, could you actually see him and CSP communicating? Lol.

Mayock has both GM and scouting experience.
What say you, SR family?!?
No. First, Jeff will not be hired by the Bears. Right now, they are feeling more hopeful about Morocco Brown (because they are very high on Matt Eberflus and are hoping for a potential marriage between the two). They also had solid interviews with Monti Ossenfort and, to some degree, Glenn Cook. And they met this evening with Eliot Wolf. But Brown is someone who has spent time with the organization and he is a trusted lieutenant of Chris Ballard who the organization feels badly for passing on [when they hired Ryan Pace]. Barring something unforeseen, they will only invite the top 2 candidates into building for second interviews. So, Jeff is out of it as I reported last Friday. But even if he was not out of it, there is no way that Mike Mayock should be considered or would be considered. Absolutely not.

I believe that Ireland does deserve another shot as a GM...but, selfishly, I do hope that he stays with us for several more years.

I’m hoping for one of two options both involving Loomis ascending to a Football President type position.
Give Ireland the GM job. Or if he leaves give Khai Harley the job.

I figure the saints have the draft blueprint down now with Payton, Loomis and Ireland anyway

When it comes to evaluating, Jeff is one the best if not arguably the best in the business. But there are so many factors that go into how teams make these decisions. Personally, I like having Jeff in New Orleans even though I know he wants to be the final voice on decisions.

On a somewhat related note, the Bears could make a major "surprise" hire that will shock if not shake up the league. That decision could come Friday. If not, then I think their goal will be to secure the Brown/Eberflus combination. If the major hire is made, I think the coaching choice will be Caldwell or Bowles. Maybe Leftwich, but definitely a minority candidate. I know they love Eberflus but I doubt they hire him if they make the surprise hire at GM.
