I was going to post about this yesterday but didn't get an opportunity. GoT star Peter Dinklage gave his honest opinion about Disney's plans to do a live action remake with dwarfs.

'Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback," he said. "They were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there, you know? It makes no sense to me."

Dinklage, the “Game of Thrones” star who has won four Emmys, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award, added: “Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough."

In an unDisney like twists, it looks like the Media giant is listening.

1. Being open-minded to how the work may impact a marginalized community
2. Genuinely consult with that community to see if there's anything you can do about it

That's all anyone can really ask for. It's not 'giving in' to take a holistic approach to the things you do and how they may impact people. It doesn't mean you're surrendering anything. It's just responsible compassion. You always have the option to do it any way, but it's smart to try to understand what that would bring. And perhaps a new angle on it will help you in the long run.

Totally agree. I'm just surprised Disney responded so swiftly.

The story itself was always weird to me, or maybe I was overthinking it.
Dude meets a woman. They like each other. First date:

Him: “Tell me about yourself.”
Her: “I love to sing and I adore nature. Also, I live with 7 dudes.”
Him: “Oh, dad and 6 brothers?”
Her: “Nope.”
Him: “Grandpa, Dad, and 5 brothers.”
Her: “Nope, only child and no grandparents, parents, or siblings.”
Him: “Cousins?”
Her: “Nope. Just met them last week and they took me in. Bunch of miners.”
Him: “Check please!”

:hihi:

If they hired normal sized people to play the dwarves would it help?

I would think that a live action with 7 roles for little people would actually be something that most little people in acting would be happy existed.

Dinklage has been successful enough to be able to afford to take this type of stand, but i suspect that many less known little people working as actors would be disappointed if they took out the dwarves.

If they hadn't put a dwarf character in GoT, most people wouldn't know who Peter Dinklage is, or care what he has to say about Snow White.

He's always been a hothead. ;)

And while we're at it, let's take the giant out of Jack and Beanstalk, don't want to offend the Gigantism community. Or let's take the Quasimodo out of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Or the phantom out of the Phantom of the Opera. I just think people get too deep in their feels sometimes. I honestly don't see a problem with portraying the dwarves in Snow White with actual dwarves? He didn't complain about his portrayal in Elf where they actually made fun of his size.

Obviously, not being a...person of that stature I don't know how to feel, but I can't imagine that Disney couldn't figure out how to keep the "Dwarves" and employ 7 actors of said stature. Make them less goofy than the original, and there are alot of (again sorry) pro-"Dwarf" things you could do with this picture. But maybe I have officially entered the out of touch old man portion of my life, who knows.
