Which team wouldn't make this move? (1 Viewer)

He tore his PCL. Hardly an injury sustained because he was trying to be the main back. And he still played 6 or 7 games WITH the injury. Your attempted point is a real stretch.

He had nagging injuries other than the PCL: concussion, hip pointer, ankle.

He plays through them, but I'd hate to see what he'd look like if expected to carry the ball 20-25 times a game.

It's a concern.

for you, it seems, but not for most people

We shall see.

The concern is based on the way he takes hits from linebackers. He takes a lot of punishment, which probably correlates to some of the fumbles.

Recall the seattle game when he got popped by Peterson. Seen too much of that in his short career.

I give him credit though. He pops up.

You don't get a hip pointer or a sore ankle from being injury prone or worked to hard. Any back can get those at any time.

Sheesh.... Gimme a break. Does nobody understand football? Bush to Oakland for the #4? What makes anyone think they would take the deal, even if Payton wanted to unload what talent he has on this team?

Again... Sheesh....

On top of that, I don't think there will ever be a real call for Reggie to run the ball 20-25 times a game in our offense, unless Brees goes down, in which case we can probably kiss our season good bye. Right now, we have 4 backs who can take carries from time to time, so I don't really see Reggie needing to take a 20 carry load unless there is a total epidemic of injuries.

Yes, they can.

I saw what I saw. In limited carries he took a lot of big shots and appeared to start hearing footsteps, resulting in a number of dropped passes that should have been "gimmes."

Enough to make me wonder if he could actually take the repeated beating as a feature back.

I think he has a great role to play in the offense. Just not sure it's primarily as a running back.

A hip pointer is caused by a single hard hit to the side. A sprained/sore ankle is caused by a single hit or planting wrong. All I'm saying is those are no indictment on his durablity, at least not yet. Whether or not he was timid is a whole different topic. Some of the best RB's in the league, rookie to veteren, fight menacing injuries every year. It comes with the territory of playing RB.

I don't understand your point. You say 'they'.

Who is the 'they' that doesn't make the deal. That's the question.... does nobody understand?

This trade Reggie stuff is amazing. It's not like the guy sucks, you have all seen him make huge plays for us, and his ability to convert third downs is one of his biggest assets.
He's just not an every down back, he never was. That doesn't mean he doesn't have enormous value to us. He's a beast if used properly.

I can't believe we're watching the same player. From were I sit, Reggie isn't getting it done. To make matters much worse, he has a significant injury that some players don't ever come back from. If he had 4th round value, I say trade him. But he doesn't. We'll either give him away, or more likely, keep him and make the best of it.

I'm a huge Reggie fan, and like his heart and unbelievable talent. But when it comes right down to it, he does the same job that Devin Hester and Kevin Faulk do for peanuts. His salary is depriving the team of better players. If we paid him 1/3 as much, it would change everything.

In your view is/was Deuce a 20-25 carry back? Because he seems to miss games every season and plays hurt in the games he does play in. He also fumbles more than he should.

Can you name any players who haven't come back from a torn PCL?

Not trying to be a jerk, but I don't know of any.

Supposedly Dalton Hilliard.

He had the PCL tear but was never the same afterward. Said he could no longer cut.

But as far as I have heard there is no one saying this should be career threatening, right?

Deuce did not have a real fumbling problem. Every back fumbles.

Deuce has 20 fumbles in 5+ seasons as essentially an everydown back. Highest total was 6 in one season when he carried the ball 351 times for 1,600 yards...

Reggie, or the team, recovered most of his 8 fumbles on 150 carries, so its off the radar as an issue. Reggie only fumbled twice in '06, so I chalk it up to whatever was causing him focus issues this year, along with the dropped passes. Doesn't yet mean he has a fumbling problem.

Deuce was defintely a workhorse. Before the ACL problems his most common recurring issue that I recall was ankle sprains and he usually played through those as Reggie plays through his.

I don't recall anybody giving Deuce a concussion and I remember Deuce dishing out punishment, not taking so much of it.

I think you guys missed the point. I don't want to trade Reggie... but if Oakland called and offered the 4th overall pick...

Would the Saints listen? Or would they hang up.

If the Saints called the Raiders... would they listen.

This is the offseason. We all know Reggie isn't going anywhere. I just thought I'd be a fun question to ponder but I forgot how single minded everyone can be.

Hang up the second they heard trade and Reggie in the same sentence, does not matter what the offer is he is too valuable to the Saints
