NEW ORLEANS - First, the question:

With a win Monday in the Superdome, will Louisiana State University's football team become a symbol of hope for this long-suffering city?

BCS title game

Now, the digression:

On the eve of college football's championship game, the French Quarter was awash in dismally drunk tourists, most of them kids, most of them clad in the Ohio State red and gray. Too tired to fling beads, they staggered back to their hotels, still clutching plastic goblets filled with neon-colored potions.

LSU isn't conected to NO like the Saints are, so I don't think the effect will be the same.

just the BCS championship game being in New orleans is huge for us. Thats a lot of money pouring into the city already this year when you add the Sugar Bowl revenue to it. So already we can be thankful. And then of course you will probably have some mention of the rebuilding efforts -- a discussion on the pink boxes sponsored by Mr Pitt and you have some good press.

As for what happens if LSU wins or loses -- it probably only matters to our morale not any tangible thing

Yea I agree there. I mean, if you're a football fan in NO, you're almost assuredly a Saints fan. While LSU fans are the majority in the city, it's not really a guarantee like the Saints. If they're going to play the recovery angle in the story, I would say it lifts the entire state including the Rita affected areas. I'm sure tomorrow if LSU wins, there will be a lot of people with that extra little something in their step, but not like if the Saints were to win it all. Either way, GEAUX TIGERS.

Economically - an LSU win/loss has no bearing, IMO. Hotels are still booked, clubs are still packed, alchohol will still be purchased in large quantities, restaurants will stay crowded.

Emotionally - I am just guessing that Baton Rouge is the place that you would not want to be if LSU loses. NO will be fine.

LSU is just as connected to New Orleans as the Saints are I can assure you of that. New Orleans has no top notch college program to root on other than LSU...

Really? There isn't one LSU fan in my family.

I crossed the causeway today and it read..."Go Tigers" at every cross section..

People everywhere getting off work just for the big game and kids all over my neighborhood playing outside wearing LSU gear...I could go on and on..

LSU is big time in New Orleans..It might not be for your personally though. I love LSU just because not only was I raised a tiger fan but many of the kids that play for LSU are Louisiana boys. I take a lot of pride in my state and like to see the local kids do well.

Nobody is saying that New Orleans isn’t bigtime “Tiger Country.”

I (and evidently a few others on this thread) just don’t feel like LSU athletics has nearly as deep a connection with the city as the Saints do. As a New Orleans native, I take a certain amount of civic pride in rooting for the Saints, as do many others I know. I don’t necessarily feel that way in rooting for the Tigers. I remember walking around the city last year on the weekends of big Saints games and feeling a genuine buzz everywhere I went. Like everyone’s collective energy and focus was all on one singular topic. I can’t say I’ve felt that way at any point this year before a big LSU game.

All that isn’t to say that most people in New Orleans aren’t supporting LSU and aren’t excited about the game, it just never feels quite the same. At least to me it doesn’t.

And whats ur point? Your family isnt the only one in New Orleans. LSU is just as loved in New Orleans as the Saints. I would venture to say probably more so. Most people around New Orleans claim to be LSU fans where as alot only claim to be Saints fans, well that was until last season.
