Guys we are all fans of the saints so we have the most important thing in common.

I always wanted to know why we vote the way we do. I always hear Republican lower taxes and democrats raise them. republicans are too close minded and democrats aren't. republicans are greedy and give tax breaks to the rich and democrats don't.

what are your interpretations to the two parties? why do you like that party or parties? and what are your top reasons/issues to get your vote. (support your own conclusions) 45points.

i just always wanted to know this. ever look at the democrats and/or the republicans and say... not even close buddy. how can someone say the republicans are absolutely wrong or the democrats absolutely wrong. why is your party or ideas or issues the right ones

Easy. Republicrats have designed a system that makes it nearly impossible for anyone other person or party to get power. These two parties use the power to make themselves and the people that contribute to their cause wealthy. They have done exactly what the constitution was made to prevent and the people of this country are losing their liberties and power because of their own stupidity.

Frankly I don't think there's much of a difference because the special intrests are the ones with the power and the give money to who ever is in control.

As such I tend to look at each candidate. The (R) or (D) doesn't influence me in the least although I do think the country functions better when one group has Congress and one has the Presidency. It forces both sides to move toward the middle.

Spending? They all over spend. They all over legislate. They all are big government liberals. Republicans try to pretend they aren't but they are. They just want to grow different parts of government.

I pick candidates based on a few criteria. First off your ideas have to be doable. Don't come to me and tell me your going to give us a national sales tax and eliminate the IRS because you can't. Ain't going to happen right now. Now, if there was a ground swell of support for that and it looked like it could get through congress maybe I'd consider voting based on that. Don't remind me your pro-life unless your running for President. Beyond that I don't care because there's nothing you can do to change or protect abortion. If your President at least you may be able to nominate justices and effect it one way or the other. Bottom line I only focus on what people can have an actual effect on.

Next, I look at overall philosophy. Do they seem to be a positive and optimistic person? The last thing I want is someone panicking and going doom and gloom during the bad times. Are they inclusive in their ideas? If someone is focusing only on blacks or trying to appeal to angry white men they won't get my vote. I see myself as an American first and I want politicians that see themselves the same. Are the divisive? There's always going to be bad blood in politics but I want someone that isn't a catalyst for it.

OK, so now I have it down to doable ideas and a good philosophy and thought process on life (or at least one I agree with). Next comes actual programs. Why programs third? Because only a small percentage of it will get done anyway. Most will be compromised to a shadow of it's former self and what isn't will fail. In the end the party platform will win out over most individual plans. Often I look at the things that person can do directly on their own depending on their level of government and what things are the cornerstones of their platform. Those are the things they will typically spend the most time on.

So of the people that past steps one and two I take the person I like best from step three. Issues in order of importance for me are:

1. Sound economic policy specifically in regards to keeping or expanding American jobs and tax policy that is always cutting especially on the middle class and rewarding good things through tax breaks instead of punishing bad with tax penalties.
2. National Defense which includes being diplomatic and having concern for human rights.
3. Civil Liberties and Rights, things like gay marriage, Patriot Act, wire tapping etc. and I'm always for expanding freedoms never reducing or invading on them.

Those three things to me cover establishing justice, ensuring domestic tranquility, providing for the common defense and supporting the general welfare. Which are the only things I think government should be doing. That being said I'm not an idealouge and I understand that we have reached a certain point in this country and we can't drastically reduce the influence of government in areas it's established in because it's to firmly rooted. Instead we have to try and draw the line now and say no further.

i see 4 distinct politcal ideologies.

The far liberal left, these are people who want to change the nature of the country into a quasi socialist state.

Democrats/Moderats - traditional democrats that would like to see more focus of government on society and less on big business

New Republicans, Republicans in name only, they have abandoned their conservative roots, particulary when they increase spending as they cut taxes.

The Radical Right, the religous right that is more concerned with the bible than the consitution.

When Cheney resigned after the mid term elections in what was obvious political posturing i left the republican party and become a Independent Conservative.

What guides my vote the most is stay out of my wallet and keep your laws off me. Problem is all the candidates are liars.

The parties haven't designed a system that makes it impossible for anyone to compete, the founding fathers did that. Single-member district representation where a majority is necessary to win the seat makes it nearly impossible for a third party. To win, you have to get over 50% so realistically that leaves room for only two parties. Any multiparty system in America would be brief, as was the case when the Republicans took over from the Whigs as the principal opponent of the Democratic Party.

I will say that redistricting has taken many districts out of play, but that has essentially rendered certain areas one-party districts, rather than two. Until redistricting ceases to exist as a spoil of winning and becomes a bipartisan effort to represent cohesive geographical areas, the partisanship will continue in Congress. There is little incentive for a Democrat to compromise with Republicans if they don't have to worry about a Republican challenge.

bclemms thats a great video. i never will understand how the gov't can just spend our SS money and even say we cant support it. thats like going to the bank and they spent all your money. this is criminal. i wish we could just stop SS and give us our money back. i dont like how edwards says the rich get out of paying money into SS. he says after 97k you dont pay money on earnings after that amount so if you make 100 million you pay up to 97k and disregard the rest. they just want the tax money to save it b/c of the money they stole. that is just disgusting. i like how they also say lets tax the oil compnays because they make too much profit. how about the gov't cuts out the taxes they charge us at the pump. what do they get 40-60 cents on the dollar? the gov't makes 100% profit b/c they have no overhead or payroll they just get the tax dollars. can you imagine the blow to the gov't if we got ride of oil. the convenience stores dieing out and the candy companys and soft drink world collapsing b/c of the lack of convenience stores.

social security was a good idea but the politicians used it as a means to pay for stuff and it got out of hand. i believe kennedy taped into it first. at least fred thompson talks about it a lot.

in response to three parties. imagine an election with no runoffs like the jindal blanco vote. the three party system got clinton in when ross perot took votes from bush.

I like to think of myself as an Independent, because I don't want to have to conform to all of a party's ideas, but I definately side more with Democrats. Left Wingers tend to be more open minded, and willing to change. I also believe that this country shouldn't involve religion with the government, when the Republicans seem to incorporate the bible into everything... I'm pretty liberal. I think gay marriage should be legal, marrijuana should be legalized, "freedom of religion" should really mean "freedom of religion", a national healthcare system should be created, abortion is fine with me. So I guess most would call me a Democrat, and that's ok...

The thing most 3rd party/Indies don't understand is just how easy it is for any person off the street to come in and join the Democrat or Republican parties and make a difference from within. Locally, statewide, nationally - it's all there if you want to make it your own. You can be a RINO or a DINO or a Socialist or a Fascist or even a Radical Islamic extremist - you deliver the votes and you're in - Republican or Democrat Party, your choice. Nobody can tell you to leave, nobody can force you to vote a certain way. Look at Ron Paul - the Republicans have tried to get rid of him for years and he keeps coming back with more money than any of the 'establishment' candidates based on his own fundraising. If the system really was the way you say it is, there would be no Ron Paul in Congress. The power is there and anyone can go get it. That's America.

Hoyasaint for President and Andyb for V.P.

Truthfully, I just want to hurl when I hear either "Republican" or "Democrat".... I think they all are snakes..... In general I like how the Repbulicans tend to protect our nation, and I like how the Democrats deal with our governmental budgeting.....
