with all the running backs who are seniors and who are coming out early in this years draft i bet the saints wish they would have waited to move up and select an RB (pittman). with all that said i dont see the saints not selecting a running back in this years group. i know we all say no no no to that idea but with stecker being a ufa and deuce hurt i would not be shocked if we grab someone within the first 4 rounds.

Are you ******* crazy!!!!

Let reality sink in and look at how bad our defense is, and a pick on offense s s s ux.

Good day Sir.

I actually think the OP is right. I'm willing to bet money the Saints draft a RB this April. This is one of the deepest drafts at RB in recent memory, and at some point when the Saints pick, a RB is going to be BPA.... It could be sooner than later.

Stecker has shown himself time and again to be such a valuable backup - I expect the organization to find a way to keep him on board.

Hopefully, they are able to handle the majority of their problems through free agency and then it won't be as drastic to go BPA in the draft. "IF" they were to have upgraded the defense significantly through FA then I wouldn't mind them drafting the RB from Illinois....Mendenhall I believe it is. I was very impressed with him from the few games I saw him in.

I do believe if we go offense early that our biggest priority should be TE or WR though.

True, very true, I think if a back you rated really high, is there in say, the 4th round, I'm willing to bet the Saints pick him up.

Mendenhall is very impressive but I think he will be long gone by the time we look to invest a pick in a RB. He's a first rounder and could go as high as Chicago if not higher. I honestly believe that he can be better than McFadden. Mendenhall reminds me of a young Edgerrin James. He runs with so much burst, power and speed.

So when will it happen and which running back will it be?

I think the most likely scenario has us grabbing a RB in the 4th or 5th round, but if the player the Saints were really high on were there in the 3rd they might go for it.

Here are a few names that could be in the mix...

RB James Davis, Clemson
RB Cory Boyd, South Carolina
RB Steve Slaton, West Virginia
RB Matt Forte, Tulane
RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina

Those are good RB's, but the player I that I think would complement Reggie the best is Jacob Hester. Both can be in the backfield at the same time because Hester can block, catch, and run the ball.

Has everyone just forgot about #23?
Why draft a RB when we have him at our disposal?

I don't think anyone has forgotten about PT23... He's shown alot of promise.

The reason we would draft a RB is because Stecker is an UFA and may not be back, and Deuce is coming off of another major knee injury.

Reggie and PT are going to be here, but there will be 4-5 RBs on the roster next year.

What's the word out there in draft land on Matt Forte (RB, Tulane)? IMO, from watching him play against LSU earlier this season, he could be very productive in the NFL. Despite our defensive needs, I really wouldn't be upset if we took him in rounds 4-7. Does anyone know if he is projected to go before then?

The combine will do alot as far as giving us an idea of where Forte will go. If he runs well and his knee totally checks out, he could go as early as the late 2nd early 3rd.

I think most likely he's going to end up going late 3rd to early 4th.
