Anyone have an idea where Curtis Lofton is projected to go in the draft? He's short, 6'0 240lbs, but everything I read about him says he is one of those players who just makes plays after plays.

The saints missed out on Demeco Ryans and this guys appears to be a similar player if not better.

I am feeling good about the saints getting some players at LB this draft.

I like Lofton aswell...what really stands out to me was his game against Mizzou..he had 12tackles and a INT....and looked fast, instinctive, hardnosed...may he be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd round?? maybe, but if not, i would love to snag a CB in the 1st, Lofton in the 2nd

I did not realize that he declared!

He's a play maker! I really like this guy. Here's an article that I ran across a while back about him:

Lofton, The Kansas City Star’s defensive player of the year, possesses the numbers necessary for all of the honors coming his way. He ranks ninth nationally in tackles per game at 11, and his 133 for the season are the most in the Bob Stoops era, topping a list that includes All-Americans Rocky Calmus, Teddy Lehman and Rufus Alexander.

But tackles tell only part of Lofton’s story. His big plays have come to define the Sooners’ defense.

Saturday, Lofton completed a game-changing goal-line stand against Oklahoma State by forcing a fumble on fourth down. Instead of having their advantage sliced to 21-14, the inspired Sooners marched down the field and went ahead by three touchdowns.

A blitzing Lofton tipped a pass that resulted in an interception at Iowa State. The play prevented the Cyclones from tying the game in the fourth quarter.

Early in the third quarter against Texas, Longhorns running back Jamaal Charles looked as if he had a touchdown. But before he got to the end zone, Lofton knocked the ball loose and the Sooners recovered, keeping a game tied that Oklahoma won by a touchdown.

Against Missouri, Lofton recorded a season-high 18 tackles, and when miscommunication caused a fumbled exchange between Tigers quarterback Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin, Lofton scooped it up and carried it 12 yards for a touchdown that clinched the game.

“Look at the plays he’s made — it’s unbelievable,” Stoops said. “How many times has he had a game-changing turnover, whether he caused it or got it?”

Thanks for the video. He's a player!

Thats a nice highlight reel there. It's not just showing big hits either. It showing his blitzing ability, run stuffing, fumble forcing, intercepting, etc... This guy looks like a playmaker. :plus-un2:

Indeed!

It has been years since the Saints have seen a MLB who plays like that. I don't know where he is projected to go, but he is the exact kind of spark plug the Saints D needs.

WOW!!!

Definately worthy of a second round pick, if not sooner. Just don't know if he'll be around in the second. Imagine getting Phillips in the first and Mr Lofton in the second!

I could show you a video of Antonio Pittman from his days at Ohio St. that would leave you thinking he' was the 2nd coming of Walter Payton!

I like Lofton, and I think he's a good player... but you can't base your opinion of him off of one highlight reel.

...not that you did that, I'm just saying.

Yep..he's allways around big plays and has a feel for the ball.

:beerchug:

I did some snooping around on some mock draft sites and he is pegged for late 1st round, so maybe the Saints could move down and still get him.

I hear what your saying but this guy put up huge stats in a year the Big12 was strong. He was just a few tackles shy of Bosworth at Oki but Lofton has done it without the juice. Think about that. Bosworth was a beast in college with the help of roids and this guy has done it clean.

I am always skeptical of players from Ohio State and Michigan because I feel their competition is weaker than other conferences and because the media is more likely to talk the Mich and OSU players up beyond their real worth.

Lofton looks like a BEAST!

But if he runs a decent 40 (4.5 etc), bench press and other drills well, then he can shoot up draft boards.

Agreed. Lofton is really good, and if we trade back into the back end of round 1 or he's there when we pick in round 2, I'd be ecstatic if we grabbed him.
