Draft
<o></o>
The New Orleans Saints trade 1[10] and 2[42] to the Kansas City Chiefs for 1[5] and 4[102]. <st1:city><st1>Kansas City</st1></st1:city> selects OT Ryan Clady.
<o></o>
1[5] DT Sedrick Ellis [USC]
<o></o>
The Saints need to make serious improvement on defense. The most successful teams build through the draft and the Saints will need to draft a high impact player in the 1st round of the draft. The Saints choose to get aggressive and move up and take a player regarded as one of the best in the draft. The Saints DTs are undersized [<st1>Lake</st1>, Clancy, Young] or old [Clancy, Young, Hollis Thomas] and a defense is built from the middle. Ellis has everything that the Saints need he has stout powerful frame [6’1” 307lbs.] and great explosion. He played NT at USC and not only was a force against the run but had 8.5 sacks last year. Some may not want to trade up after the Jon Sullivan incident but these are 2 different players Ellis has a work ethic.

<o></o>
3[74] LB Tavares Gooden [<st1:city><st1>Miami</st1></st1:city>]
<o></o>
With no 2nd round pick the Saints need to grab a difference maker in rd 3. Gooden is a physically gifted LB at 6’1” 242lbs. and an estimated 40 of 4.45 and he has played every LB spot at <st1:city><st1>Miami</st1></st1:city> a school that creates NFL linebackers. He falls because of inconsistency but he has the physical skills that the Saints defense needs.

<o></o>
4. CB Chevis Jackson [LSU]
<o></o>
The Saints will hit the free agent market for a CB with the 30 million in cap room. But with Mike McKenzie’s and Jason David being an awful football player the Saints need to add depth to the CB spot.<st1:city><st1> Jackson</st1></st1:city> is a physical CB that would fit nicely in the Saints man coverage system.

<o></o>
4. TE Kellen Davis [<st1:street><st1:address>Michigan St</st1:address></st1:street>.]
<o></o>
<st1:city><st1>Davis</st1> f</st1:city>its the mold of a Payton TE, he is 6’6” 262lbs. <st1:city><st1>Davis</st1></st1:city> has reliable hands and room to grow as a blocker. He provides depth at a position that with the exception of Billy Miller underperformed this year.

<o></o>
<o></o>
5. DE Darrell Robertson [Georgia Tech]
<o></o>
The 3rd down pass rush was a problem last year as it left a very weak secondary exposed to long. Charles Grant is a solid LE but he and Smith are too much power rushers. Roberston is undersized but has a great burst around the edge. If he develops he gives the Saints a bargaining chip when it comes to Will Smith.
<o></o>

<o></o>
<o></o>
6. S Dominique Barber [<st1:state><st1>Minnesota</st1></st1:state>]
<o></o>
At 6’2” 215lbs. and running a 4.45 [40] he has all of the physical tools that you look for in both a FS and SS. Barber will have time to develop behind Keviharn and Harper while playing special teams.
<o></o>
<o></o>
<o></o>>
7. C Eric Scott [<st1:state><st1>Kentucky</st1></st1:state>]
<o></o>
He anchored a very solid Wildcats offensive line and with both the Saints centers becoming free agents it might be wise to add some depth.
<o>

I love your mocks more and more each time you do them. All I'm not sure about is Jackson in the 4th, wouldn't he still be there in late 5th early 6th?

agressive yes! but smart we shouldnt just blow all our money and picks on a hand full of players. i think we should keep most of our draft picks and use them carefully.free agency can be tricky and expensive but if the right guy is there and the money is fair then pull the trigger. but NEVER BREAK THE BANK or overspend for a player. that will set you back, before it does any good. look at how new england handles freeagents the NEVER OVERSPEND, in fact most of the freeagent deals they make are one year proove yourself type deals. i think thats the right way to go, in 06 we had a good draft and then a good season. 07 was the complete opposite, we just gotta get the draft part right form here on out.

I like your aggressive approach toward FA, but maybe not quite that aggressive.

I'm for a more conservative approach to the draft. Instead of putting all of our hopes on a few players, I would rather trade down and get more young defensive players in camp. We just don't need a TE that bad. Unless a projected top 5 offensive player slid to 10 (or wherever we traded down to), I would be reluctant to spend any of the original 7 choices on offense.

Im not agreen wit either one of ya but I just hate how people say "do it like (insert name of great team) does it" New England can get away with it because they are more desirable team for all kinds of reason.

Thats like saying you should treat girls just like Justin Timberlake cuz it works for him.

If you're Dallas, New York, Chicago, New England..... etc, you have a built in advantage and if you have a world class operation with a world class QB and world class coach, guys will make some exceptions to play for you.

I can just see the Saints going up to some young up and coming player and saying, "look, forget all the other teams that want to pay you, you come play for us and we"ll pay you less but we'll give you a chance to prove yourself". I'm laughing at this while I type it. Aint guna happen.

The Saints are a young and desirable team 2 years ago they were in the NFC Championship and they have a nucleus of guys that could get them back their. This yeart the defense played poorly and we lost.

i think u missed my point, teams like new england dont try to build thier team thru free agency, the only add role players and other peices. the core of their teams are built throu the draft. i was only suggesting that we follow that model. im not saying we should try to copy new england(which is not a bad thing) im saying take what they do right and add it to our game.

Looks like the post you responded to went entirely over your head. To compete against the large markets, you need to give more in terms of salary and benefits to compensate for the lack of media exposure and possible endorsement deals. It's just the way reality is.

Why do you think that Chevis Jackson will be there late on the second day? Did you ever see him play?

Love that Tavares Gooden selection. I have posted this several times on this board that I believe he will be an absolute beast in the NFL. It's not so much his inconsistency that is troublesome its the fact that he was playing behind Jon Beason, Rocky McIntosh, and Leon Williams throughout his career that made getting on the field harder than usual. I think he will shoot up the draft boards after his workouts, but he should be there when we pick in the second round unless we trade up/down. If we could get either Ellis or Phillips in the first and Gooden in the second, then on paper we would have significantly upgraded the speed and athleticism of our LB corp and secondary.

i thnk if we can address CB and LB in the free agency we will trade down for more pics. that would be wonderful....

I still do not get it...

WHY are people still in love with cover 2 CB's?

Do you think that Samuel will fare better than J. David? Maybe, but I want a 1:1 CB.

Considering the money, I think Asante is just a little on the far side of 30 for me.

albert haynesworth would be a better pickup than samuel because we have a young corner and in the 2nd round get another, after sullivan I don't know if we feel secure in going DT high, so sign Haynesworth, Draft lb in #10 and pick a young cb in 2nd. and then get Vilma from the jets also and we are set. any late round jewels would just be gravy

i think this would improve our defense dramatically:plus-un2: :plus-un2:

Sign me up for that offseason. Agree 100%......although both of these plans are not going to happen....I think we get Briggs (just a hunch)....
