PFT - Sean Payton is willing to coach again (2 Viewers)

That's a loaded division and Wilson is, at most, the third best QB and on the downward slope of his career. That would be a difficult place for Payton to pad his legacy. Great if it happens because it would seem so inconsequential.

So what teams do we think Payton was talking about as too dysfunctional to work for? I'd say Atlanta but I don't think he'd ever work for another NFC South team, anyway. Raiders seem obvious. Washington. I'd say the description fits the Cowboys but he has the firsthand view of that organization. The Jets have seemed mostly hopeless for a long time.

He was ready to coach again, before he even retired from our team. Heck, wasn’t his agent talking with the Dolphins?😂
“It’s not you, it’s me” was the line we were given. Thank that man for everything he has done for us, but he is on a completely different journey that doesn’t include us. Just give us the correction compensation and we are good.

I think this was always going to be the case… he was burnt out, but at some point the itch will come again.
Some burnout, letting it be known 9 months and just 2 games into his retirement he’s ready to coach again? Vermeil staying away a decade plus is what a real burnout looks like.

Sean knows he was limited here with franchise respect and a city in total decay.

He wants to coach again for a franchise with an easier path (from the NFL and player FA recruiting) to the Super Bowl.

I thought then and I think now that the Saints gave some parameter that Payton didn't like or that they asked him to leave outright.

Simple math. Payton returning + Dallas losing = top 10 pick.
