Didn’t SP say he’s like to coach for a competent FO???? Despite, it’s probably just pandering of some sort. Dude loves the Dallas areaSimple math. Payton returning + Dallas losing = top 10 pick.

I truly think Dallas is where he will end up but it will all fall down to what kind of compensation we received and it better not be a 2nd round pick.Didn’t SP say he’s like to coach for a competent FO???? Despite, it’s probably just pandering of some sort. Dude loves the Dallas area
If that was true he would have made them fire him so can continue to get paid and could freely sign with another team whenever he wants.I thought then and I think now that the Saints gave some parameter that Payton didn't like or that they asked him to leave outright.
That's not necessarily true. It happens all the time in any industry that someone can be convinced to leave on their own terms, so to speak. If that was true he would have made them fire him so can continue to get paid and could freely sign with another team whenever he wants.
Like?I thought then and I think now that the Saints gave some parameter that Payton didn't like or that they asked him to leave outright.
Hasn’t that been the Benson’s MO since they bought the team.Like?
The issue is that the Benson's basically gave Payton the keys to the franchise (and are even giving DA a pretty long leash to start.) to do whatever he wanted with. They paid him what he wanted, they allowed him and ML/Ireland to draft and sign whoever they wished. Anyone marginally knowledgeable about the Saints could pretty confidently say that Payton was given no parameters. If he wanted to leave, they'd let him leave. If he wanted to play for another team, he could've simply refused to coach the Saints and they would've traded him (which was going to happen, but then it didn't, and he remained here.). He had all the freedom a coach would want. Had nothing to do with the team, and assuming so doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Maybe they decided they'd give him less of that freedom. I don't know. It's just speculation. But I think there's two sides to this story. Who walks away from all that control, an established culture, a top 5 defense and a blank check only to openly express interest in returning within a year?Like?

Definite no's:So what teams do we think Payton was talking about as too dysfunctional to work for? I'd say Atlanta but I don't think he'd ever work for another NFC South team, anyway. Raiders seem obvious. Washington. I'd say the description fits the Cowboys but he has the firsthand view of that organization. The Jets have seemed mostly hopeless for a long time.
He spent 16 years in the same organization. Burn out is possible. He was never “burned out”. Something about the Saints situation made him “retire”.
I don't get why we are just repeating old news.Sean Payton: If the right job comes along, I'm interested in returning to coaching
Sean Payton only left his job as head coach of the Saints eight months ago, but he already is missing his time on the sideline.profootballtalk.nbcsports.com
Didn't see it posted. I'll delete if someone sees it.
