So I was watching the East West game on Espn yesterday (not sure if that what it was called) but I was impressed with QB Josh Johnson from San Diego. I mean it seems to me hes got everything (Ill explain later) but then I got to thinkin, they said that he was a projected 7th round pick. What if we picked him up in the 7th and used him as that QB project, I think hes got the talent.

Now how hes got everything:
Size: 6-3 200lbs
40 Time: 4.65

This season's stats:
206/301, 2988 yards, 43 td's, 1 int
He also rushed for 726 yards

Now I was watching him in this game and all of his throws were great, basically he threw all good passes and most of the incompletions were drops. He puts great speed and zip on the ball. Also he is very smart, he throws it to where only the WR can get it, and also he is very smart on knowiing when to run and when not to run. He is not a run first QB, he lets the play fully develope and when there is no passing option he uses his gift and runs.

Did anyone else watch the game and see him and think that we should draft him or another QB in the late rounds?

The Saints have a developmental QB in Palko. Plus, Drew has a good 5 or 6 years in him. The Saints need a veteran backup if Palko isn't ready for the job.

Most 7th rounders don't stick (I know about Colston!). Tom Brady looked like a skinny, geeky kid in his combine film and went in the 6th round. I would never criticise a team for taking a QB (the most importnt position on the field) late to develop. Look at Brady, Bulger, Romo, Warner etc. etc.

Todd McShay (take it for what its worth) said that he was a 5th round projection before the game but his game in Houston showed he can play with better talent and play well. His draft stock is rising quickly and is looking at being a 2-4 round draft pick now. I would actually be excited if the Saints drafted him but we have more pressing needs on defense but if he was around in the 4th then I would be all for grabbing him.

Johnson is far better than Palko. Better arm, faster feet, more speed and is a smart efficent player. After watching the game yesterday and listening to where he is expected to go in the draft because his stock is sky rocketing I would be highly suprised to see him in the 7th round but I also wouldn't be mad if the Saints drafted him.

a new backup qb would be nice.. but think about it.. we need another OL, DT or 2, a pair of cb, safety, an last but not least a MLB that can play the position.
Knowing that the draft is a crapshoot as it is.. NO, maybe another UDFA if someone falls out of the draft.. but we have pressing needs that have to be filled to even think playoffs.
There are only 7 draft picks.. that's assuming we hit gold on everyone just to hit our needs.. backup qb really isn't an option. Granted FA will change a lot of things, but regardless of who's picked up in FA, we need some youth at those positions to be groomed and play in case of injuries..
Yes , a qb would be nice to groom for the future, but as it is, if brees is injured, we ain't going anywhere, and unless you get another top 7 or 8 qb, it wont' change that. Those top 7 or 8 are already starting and making tons of money, they don't want to be backup.
