In defense of Winston ( gulp ) (3 Viewers)

Jameis Winston is the only active starting QB with more INTs than Games Started (min 16gs).

Winston has 5 INTs through 3 games in 2022. He is on pace for 28.3 INTs. I would bet he finishes this season with at least 1.2 INT/GS.

He has the lowest Passer Rating of his career this year and clearly not healthy. He isn’t the only problem but his INTs lost the TB game. His slow starts didn’t help in Atl or Car. A poor performance against Minny should see him benched.
You do know Brees was in that category until like 2014, right?

One play yesterday tells you a lot about Winston's instincts.

I don't remember when, but he was under pressure and just before being crushed (again) he launches a deep ball to TQS, who was double teamed and no where close to open. Luckily the ball was over thrown and incomplete.
This the story of Winston's career, when pressured throw it up and hope. It's why he lost his last job. A lot of people try to blame Arians for his 30 ints and there may be some truth to this but it's pretty obvious now that Winston just can't help himself. At least Payton knew how handle him. Pete and Dennis don't. Who's our QB coach?
Hey guess what, I have seen multiple QBs including Brady, Rodgers, Montana, and even our very own Brees do that. Do they have Winston instincts too? I mean, who would of thought to over throw a pass in the direction of a receiver, not to take a sack....

That’s either incorrect or cherry-picking depending what metric you are using. He had less INTs than GP at SD. If you cherry-pick 2007-10, then yes he is +2 INTs to GP, but he also won a SB and was still under 1:1 career.

You right. Mental math was off on my end...

At the end of the 2014 season, he started 201 games and threw 194 interceptions (.97 interceptions per)

I used that as an example of what we're seeing multiple times a game. Heaven forbid he should throw it out of bounds like most QBs would. Or just take the sack. But that's his instinctive reaction. And it's going to lead to lots of bad results if it isn't corrected.

First let me ask a question, Olave was brilliant yesterday, but how is it fair to give none of the credit to Winston?, he did make some excellent throws to him
Went for over 350 yards, made two 3rd downs with good throws that were called back by dubious flags
Got us in to scoring position twice but we missed what should have been easy field goals, another drive killed by a fumble, another by 2 false starts
All in all l thought he played okay yesterday, much better than the previous 2 weeks
Still relieved we did not get Watson, or even Wilson, either one would have killed our future , even glad we did not get Jimmy G, considering our options at the start of the season l still think we made the right and only choice
As he starts to get healthier l do think he will get better, also tough for any quarterback to start with 3 division games in a row
Am not ready to throw in the towel just yet
I get what you are trying to say but I just need to understand when did he go from being an inconsistent QB who struggled to read defenses and throw with accuracy, turning the ball over at pivotal times in the game so that his team cut him, To a consistent, accurate QB that’s could read defenses and carry the team on his back? Because we keep saying he is playing like this because he is hurt. Let’s be honest, hurt or not the is the exact SAME QB he was in Tampa and the reason they let him go. I get he is a saint and I get he is the QB right now but this revisionist history of his career as a buc and his 7 games as a saint last year is ridiculous. The guy is who he has always been, we can continue to hope the light comes on and that he can be the QB we all want but at this point nothing in his game has changed to say the light has come on. Yes he’s an awesome person and a really good guy but that’s not going to win games, Taysom is an awesome guy and a really good person and a born leader but it still doesn’t make him an NFL starter.

Big L I get it, and I love your loyalty to Winston. He’s our QB and we all should be. Help me out, what have you seen in his game from Tampa to now that tells you he is a different QB? Watching him in Tampa we all here loved playing him because we knew he was good for a few picks and he would choke. We literally have threads from back then making fun of him. He has been the exact same QB here as he was there except his personality is awesome. Even in training camp this year Hebert and Deuce both had concerns to the point where Deuce even made a comment on air one time that he was doing in practice exactly the things that got him run out of Tampa. So what are you seeing that a lot of us aren’t. Is it that you are just hoping or is it you really think he is a great QB now that’s changed his stripes and is just hurt?

So, that's U & Coach DA...........Anyone else not want to give a HEALTHY , battle tested, QB a Chance to help OUR TEAM WIN? Where's the LOVE 4 the catches CGM made yesterday? He damned near tore his leg off trying to correct his momentum to catch a poorly thrown ball! If I'm QB? I'm throwing to CGM & "Juice" Landry in stride for big YACs! JW's been off more than just yesterday and doesn't go through his progressions with decisiveness! Gotta let those balls fly! Not wobble Ur way INTO sacks! No "pocket presence" whatsoever! Concerned for the dude's safety and health! Seen ENOUGH! Sit down and let's allow the game to come to YOU!

He's taken enough freaking sacks.

He's trying to win the game despite himself, his injuries and the utter incompetence of our OL and playcalling.

I'm not faulting him for much yet.

I don't remember Winston being this way last year. He had less weapons then and looked better. I think it's more of a injury issue with him.

I think he should be sitting so he can heal up. We have a capable backup to let him heal. I've heard his fractures can't get any worse by playing but they obviously can't better by taking the hits he continues to take.

I think for the most part he knows what defenses are doing but when defenses are bringing 2 extra guys we can't block them all.

Overall, I just think these guys all need time together. PC to Winston to Thomas to Landry..they needed reps together. So essentially these guys are learning on the fly and it's showing.

I'm also remembering Winston was competing for the starters job last year so he played in the preseason. Only guy to really play this preseason was sorry *** Book!

I'm a supporter but he's not making adjustments when he needs to like when they show zero coverage (all-out blitz). Yes, things that should help a QB are going bad as well but he's not doing his part. Just like DA he will not get the benefit of the doubt like Drew or Payton. I do not know if it's the injury or playcalling but he's running out of time and chances.

Jameis Winston is a chucker.

A chucker in basketball is a player who takes lots and lots of shots and hopes more go down than not. If he gets in a rhythm you can't guard him. Hand in his face. Turnaround jumper from halfcourt. Splash. But mostly he's just turning the ball over and putting his team on the back heel. But then he'll still hit a huge shot late and put you back in the game...or ruin your comeback with a bad shot.

It's called a gunsliger in football but he's hurt. Undisciplined, gunslingers, like Farve before Holgrum or Jeff George, have short careers. Yes, the problems are bigger than him but as a QB the blame comes with the territory.
