Last night on ESPN's NFL Matchup, Jaws was doing a break down of the AFC Championship. He went onto show how the Colts exposed Drayton Florence last week and how the Pats would target him today. He showed Reggie Wayne toying with him using head fakes and rookie Anthony Gonzalez flat running by him for a touchdown. He also gave a telling stat that opponents have completed 75% of passes gone his way this season.

I know many people are actively campaigning to sign him touting him as a less-expensive version of the top three guys. Fact is, he's not anywhere in the class of Samuels, Asomogha, or Trufant. He doesn't even start for his own team and it looks like the Chargers won't even make a serious play re-signing him. Is this the guy that's going to immediately shore up our woes as cornerback? We already have a two potential nickel backs in Jason David and Usama Young.

There are reasons why guys like Drayton Florence and Randall Gay are nickelbacks. We need a MAJOR overhaul at the corner position. I could maybe live with either one of those guys if Mike McKenzie hadn't suffered his devestating knee injury, however I feel we need to make a huge play for a difference maker at cornerback because we're currently in a pirogue without a paddle at that position.

Yeah I heard that too on the radio. Sounds pretty bad.

We are very limited in what we can do

You make a great point but with MM a big question at the beginning of the season. We will be in BIG TROUBLE with what we have right now.It is alot of things you have to look at. These aren't just avg. qb. These are two Hall of fame qb's and potental HOF wr in Wayne. Right now he may not be much of an upgrade over David but i know he is an upgrade. To go even a step further Drew Brees ate up Clements, Rashaun Mathis, DHall and etc. with an avg. wr corp this year. My point is good qb play makes db's look bad. Shoot David was getting by by a backups in Jacksonville, Tampa, and etc. Yes florence lost his job this year but the guy he lost his job to lead the league in int's and is on his way to the pro bowl. We will be depleted enough considering thomas want be back MM will be question. That leaves Young, Craft and David. U tell me if that is a db corp that can hold there on. I still believe we don't need a stud at cb. It want hurt. A guy like Ike taylor will do us just fine, who i compare to Florence. We need a guy that can hold his own on an island. U know what u r getting in Florence. he will get beat but he will make some plays. Now if we can get a stud in there then pull the trigger but we are going to have to go into next season thinking that MM want be there at the start.

Right place right time, but he just got a pick.

That's true that Manning and Brady are HOF QBs, but did he face HOF QBs every game this season? How do you account for a 75% completion percentage against him during the season? We need difference makers and I don't seem him being that type of player. It said a lot when the Chargers drafted Cromartie a couple of years ago right after drafting Florence.

Samuel is better, but probably not available, but Florence would improve the bunch, get a Haynesworth and/or DT in the draft and they will have so much pressure I could play corner

I think some of that was on Jammer too.

During that time Jammer was in the same territory as Florence. Now with that Jammer finally turned the corner and Florence didn't. My point is we are going to have to do something with a major ? on MM. Regardless of who we bring in we need an upgrade and the draft isn't the answer.

Florence had a very very good year last year and a very poor year this year.

If you want to evaluate him you have to figure out why his play took such a downturn in one year. Change in scheme? Teams just testing him more because of Cromartie? Did his goldfish die and it just tear him up inside all year?

Samuels will be available unless re-signed prior to the FA period. His contract stipulates that he can not be franchised. He will be available and will be made the highest paid cornerback in NFL history by someone; Bank on it.

Maybe teams went after Cromartie more since he was a rookie? Florence's flaws were covered up by a great pass rush last year?

Spam, did you get my PM about the Senior Bowl?

The issue is not whether Florence is better than Jammer or Cromartie; the question is what are the Saints options. Also, looking for THE answer is misleading, the Saints need to bring in at least 4 new starters on defense.

Then what are we supposed to be looking for? Minor upgrades aren't going to propell this team to the next level. Honestly, I don't see much difference between Drayton Florence and Usama Young besides the experiance.
