[Thursday Update: Winston not at practice] Winston not at practice. Taysom Hill taking QB snaps today.[Update 2: Rehabing Back, Ankle & Hip] (1 Viewer)

I get the whole continuity thing. Perhaps we will learn that this isn't going to work as originally thought and shake things up next year.

Might want to take a look at Philly's OC to replace DA if he continues to make Philly a top contender.

For one, he has done a great job of developing Hurts- which may be useful for the Saints if we pick-up a QB who requires development and who may have a similar skill set. Assuming we move on from Winston.

Philly's offense in general has looked pretty dang good, so the guy clearly knows what he's doing on that side of the ball.

Downside would be the rookie HC mistakes that come from not running a team from top/bottom- like clock management, etc.
Well, Dennis Allen is making bad veteran coaching mistakes.

I mean triple reverse Sean Payton was a rough moment, but playing a hurt QB is eregious.

This is Dennis Allen 4th or 5th year as a head coach... The standard has to be higher than a rookie coach.

If Dalton gets the start and the offense clicks (I don’t mean they look all world, just efficient.. clean.. and score 20+) and the Saints win… Does DA go back to Winston ASAP?

If he does, then I strongly predict Allen lasts no more than 2-3 seasons and then never gets a NFL HC gig again

You don't go back to Winston till he's 100% healthy and he's been practicing for at least a week in my opinion.

I'm curious as to when the Thomas injury occurred during the game.

When he walked off with the trainers, seemed ok? I was thinking it was his hand or something.
Didn't seem serious to me at all either. I did notice a very very slight hitch in his walk and thought maybe hammy at the time. The look on his face he didn't seem to worried. But now his not even practicing??

You ride the hot hand and you stick with Dalton...I have zero problems w/ that.
I agree. We stay!

With our defense we don't any of our QBs to be great. We just need them to be consistent, move the ball, and not commit turnovers. We have too much talent on offense now to be struggling to score.

This. We should have scooped up McDaniel and let him bring in his staff for OC, etc. Then if DA didn't want to stay as DC, or take an opportunity someplace else, we slide Richard into the DC role.

I like McDaniel and thought he was one of the most intriguing HC candidates this offseason and think you laid out a solid alternate scenario.

I'm curious, though, if it was the Saints who didn't show him any interest or if it was the other way around? Is that known? Regardless, not sure how easy it would have been to land McDaniel since we know Miami was interested enough to offer him the job, so at the least, there would have been competition for him. Not sure the Saints win out in that scenario. Two QBs rehabbing from season-ending injuries and Ian Book, a star receiver who'd missed all of last season and parts of the prior season, a star running back facing felony charges, a looming vacancy at LT, a rookie QB class generally regarded as weak at the top, and cap issues to work through. Honestly not sure how attractive the Saints opening would have been among coaching candidates, particularly offensive minded ones.

It’s rare to get a 2nd chance with a 8-28 record. Regardless of what he does, he’s not getting a 3rd chance. At this stage it’s a matter of when not if he’s fired.

Rest Winston. Let Dalton be a game manager until Winston can heal the foot and hip flexor issues, we know the back fractures are not going to heal overnight so he'll have to manage that when he does return.

Honestly hope our focus is to run the ball the next couple of weeks. We have great depth at RB and need to commit to that against some lesser run defenses coming up. From there have Dalton pick and choose moments to air it out. I mean we've done this in the past with Teddy B and Taysom, don't see why it can't be done now.

On a side note, hope Penning can come back soon, I feel his attitude and ability can be a real game changer for us.

Our Defense will get theirs, so im not too worried about that side of the ball!!

I’m going to speculate the Saints had no interest. McDaniel obviously was ready to make the next move, and his agent would tell him to talk to the Saints just to drive up the bid from the Dolphins or others.

Fact is Loomis locked in on a 8-28 guy, traded away next years 1st thinking he hired a story like Bellicheck On his 2nd NFL gig. He miscalculated horribly and should cost him his job.

Possibly, though McDaniel was announced as the Dolphins coach on Feb 6th and the Saints announced Allen as replacement on the 7th. I’m not saying the two events are linked, and I won’t casually throw around “fact”, but it does set the timeline.

What I do feel confident in saying is that there will always be parts of any decision making that fans don’t know squat about. We know what gets reported on, and occasionally the nuggets that come through alternate channels, but to think we have anything close to resembling a fully transparent view into the innerworkings is really naive.

What has me dead is the Saints passed on Doug Pederson for Allen and Carmichael.
DA don't mind me too much... But let's look at that OC search. It was a complete joke.

Interview
Scottie Montgomery(Indy RB coach)
Jay Gruden (Certified bum)
Kentucky Wildcats offensive coordinator Liam Coen
Dallas Cowboys WR coach Robert Prince

Then, you hire Pete.

People try to talk wiping away DA history with the Raiders when he pulled the same mistake he did there. He has little to no idea on how to hire coaches on the offensive side of the ball.

Just a very lackluster list of names.
